UF LAX: Bragg and Hoey Earn Big 12 Player of the Week Honors

Theresa Bragg was named Defensive Player of the Week and Georgia Hoey earned Goalkeeper of the Week as both players have played key roles in the Gators 2-0 start.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida lacrosse players Theresa Bragg and Georgia Hoey have earned Big 12 Player of the Week nods, announced by the league Tuesday afternoon. Bragg was named Defensive Player of the Week and Hoey was named Goalkeeper of the Week.

Bragg and Hoey both played critical roles towards the Gators 2-0 start with wins over No. 10 Johns Hopkins and Kennesaw State, conceding just eight goals allowed per game and holding opponents to .327 percent shooting.

Bragg corralled seven ground balls and six caused turnovers across the Gators first two games, holding Johns Hopkins leading returning scorer Ava Angello to just 2-for-9 shooting from the field. Bragg’s 13 combined ground balls and caused turnovers are tied for the second most in program history across the first two games to start a season. It is her first career defensive player of the week honor.

Hoey totaled 15 saves (third in the country), spotlighted by a career high 10 saves against Johns Hopkins. Hoey totaled a .1000 save percentage against Kennesaw State, making five saves and allowing zero goals. The Fairfield, Conn. native’s .577 save percentage this season is good for 13th in the country. The graduate student owns a 13-0 record all-time as a Gator. It is her third career goalkeeper of the week honor.

The No. 5 Gators return to action this Saturday against No. 3 North Carolina at 12 p.m. Action will be streamed on ESPN+.
