Gainesville, Fla. – Right-handed pitcher Tommy Mace was named to the 2021 SEC Baseball Community Service Team on Wednesday, as announced by the conference office. Mace is one of 14 players to be named to the Community Service Team, which recognizes one player from each SEC program for their contributions to his community through superior service efforts.
During his time with the Gators, Mace served both as a volunteer mentor at Littlewood Elementary School and participated in Climb for Cancer Sports Camp. In total, Mace accumulated 22.5 official hours of outreach to the aforementioned causes alone.
At Littlewood Elementary, the Florida right-hander helped students complete their class assignments and encouraged kids to do their best. Through his volunteerism, Mace built a strong relationship with the students in the class.
As for his other involvement, Climb for Cancer Sports Camp is an annual event that brings children who have or have had cancer to participate in a day of sports at University of Florida athletic facilities. Serving as a group leader, Mace developed drills and interacted with participating children throughout the duration of the event.
In addition to his volunteer efforts off the field, Mace has been a staple in the Florida pitching rotation over the past three seasons, racking up 32 starts during that time. Overall, Mace owns a 21-4 career record with a 4.38 ERA, 255 innings pitched, 238 strikeouts and a .257 batting average against. In 2021 alone, Mace has gone 5-0 on the mound and struck out 93 batters in 75.2 innings of work.
