GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida Gators rookie infielder Brendan Lawson<https://floridagators.com/sports/baseball/roster/brendan-lawson/17350> was announced as the Southeastern Conference Co-Freshman of the Week by the league office on Monday afternoon.
The honor marks Lawson’s second SEC Freshman of the Week nod of the season, as he previously brought home the accolade on Feb. 24. As for this second time around, the Canadian freshman shared the award alongside Oklahoma’s Drew Dickerson.
Collecting base knocks in all four contests last week, Lawson posted multi-hit games in every matchup of the series at Mississippi State to help the Gators to a 3-1 record and road series victory. The Toronto, Ontario native finished the week slashing .412/.450/.765 with one triple, four doubles, five RBI and four runs scored.
In the three-game series at MSU alone, Lawson went 6-for-14 with one triple and two doubles. Leading off the fifth inning of the finale, he recorded a “little-league home run,” tripling to center and scoring on a throwing error to come all the way around the bases.
The UF third baseman also delivered a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage across 17 defensive chances in the Gators infield.
Lawson and the Gators return to action at home on Tuesday at 6 p.m. against Georgia Southern on SEC Network+.
