LAST TIME OUT
The Gators are coming off a 5-4 midweek victory over No. 9 Florida State at home. In doing so, Florida won the season series over FSU for the seventh time in the last eight for a total of 10 out of 16 in the O’Sullivan era. Florida turned three double plays in the effort and drove in four of its five runs with two outs. The win improved the Gators to 20-3 in non-conference action, 11-3 vs. in-state competition and 9-2 in midweek games including a perfect 6-0 at home.

NATIONAL RANKINGS
After 35 games, Florida remains ranked inside the top-50 teams nationally across nine statistical categories. Led by the sixth-most strikeouts per nine innings (11.8) in the country, the Gators also rank 11th in fielding percentage (.981), 17th in shutouts thrown (three), 22nd in home runs (53), 30th in strikeout-to-walk ratio (2.54), 35th in hit-by-pitches (61), 40th in hits (334), 41st in double plays turned (26) and 47th in slugging percentage (.501).

GREENER IN GAINESVILLE
Securing 17 of their 21 victories at home, the Gators have slashed .319/.431/.552 with 40 homers, 36 steals and 8.2 runs per game across 24 contests at Condron Family Ballpark. That has been accompanied by 3.9 extra-base hits per game. On the flip side, visiting teams have batted .241/.344/.392 backed by 26 homers, 24 steals, 4.9 runs per game and 2.3 extra-base knocks per tilt.

RED HOT HEY
Catching all 36 innings of Florida’s last four games against Vanderbilt and Florida State, catcher Luke Heyman<https://floridagators.com/sports/baseball/roster/luke-heyman/17327> has been the Gators’ best hitter in SEC play by a wide margin. As one of two Gators hitting over .300 in league play, Heyman leads UF in every slash category with a .386/.449/.750 batting line over 12 SEC contests. With a gaudy 1.199 OPS, Heyman is the only Florida batter to post an OPS above .950 in league play. He has been on another planet in the last eight games overall dating back to UF’s visit to Ole Miss, batting .500/.545/.900 (15-for-30) with three homers and three doubles. Heyman has even been a stalwart defensively, ranking first in the SEC with a 1.000 fielding percentage, nine runners caught stealing and 284 putouts.

MURDERER’S ROW
Florida’s retooled lineup features five qualified hitters with an OPS above .950 and batting average over .300 in catcher/designated hitter Brody Donay<https://floridagators.com/sports/baseball/roster/brody-donay/17324> (1.154, .330), infielder Colby Shelton<https://floridagators.com/sports/baseball/roster/colby-shelton/17335> (1.027, .364), infielder Brendan Lawson<https://floridagators.com/sports/baseball/roster/brendan-lawson/17350> (1.003, .313), infielder Bobby Boser<https://floridagators.com/sports/baseball/roster/bobby-boser/17349> (.984, .301), and Heyman (.958, .317). Those five players have accounted for 75.5% of the Gators’ home runs this season (40 of 53) and 60.1% of run production (143 of 238 RBI). 12 Gators have posted multi-hit games on the year while 10 different UF players have logged three-hit performances.

BELTIN’ SHELTON
Sitting atop the SEC with 15 doubles (ninth in NCAA), Shelton enters the series boasting a whopping 18-multi hit games on the season – six more than the next-closest Gator. Starting all 35 games at shortstop, Shelton has reached base in all but one contest while slashing .364/.427/.600 with six home runs, 31 runs scored, 27 RBI and five stolen bases. The junior has refined his approach this season, cutting his strikeout rate down to 10.2% after fanning at a 26.4% clip one year ago. Shelton has drawn as many combined walks (11) and hit-by-pitches (five) as strikeouts (16).

BOBBY BOMBS
Swatting his team-high 11th homer on Sunday vs. Vanderbilt, Boser paces the Gators with 39 runs (eight more than any other player) and is tied with Lawson for the team lead in RBI (37) – good for 10th and 11th in the SEC, respectively. Boser is 4-for-5 with the bases loaded this year, highlighted by two home runs and 15 RBI. The UF third baseman is one of two Gators (Shelton) to have started every game this season.

THE ONE-TWO PUNCH
Florida’s weekend rotation is anchored by standout right-handed hurlers Liam Peterson<https://floridagators.com/sports/baseball/roster/liam-peterson/17332> and Aidan King<https://floridagators.com/sports/baseball/roster/aidan-king/17366>, the former of which was one of 45 players named to the 2025 Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch List. In five home starts this season, Peterson is 4-1 with a 1.71 ERA, .185 batting average against and 40-to-11 strikeout-to-walk ratio. He wields a 14.0 K/9 and 1.30 WHIP through seven total starts. As for King, the rookie will make his sixth-career start on Friday, owning a 3.12 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, .213 batting average against and 37-to-11 K-to-BB ratio. Peterson (two) and King (two) have accounted for four of Florida’s five quality starts this year. Both pitchers completed at least five innings with three runs allowed or fewer last weekend vs. Vanderbilt.

CLEMENTIME
In Florida’s Tuesday win over No. 9 FSU, right-hander Jake Clemente<https://floridagators.com/sports/baseball/roster/jake-clemente/17322> sealed the win by retiring all six batters he faced in order to earn his first-career save. Clemente struck out four in his two perfect frames. In four appearances since moving to the bullpen, Clemente has allowed one run across six innings. He has struck out 10 and allowed just two hits during that stretch.

RESPECT THE LAW, SON
With a two-hit, four-RBI night on Tuesday, Lawson is now tied for the team lead with 37 RBI on top of eight home runs, five doubles, 26 runs and five steals. Slashing .313/.438/.565 on the year, Lawson’s nine multi-RBI games rank second on the roster behind Boser’s 11.

STEALING THE SHOW
The Gators have stolen 50 bases in 59 attempts (84.7%), equating to 1.4 steals per game. For reference, the Gators averaged 0.7 steals per game last season. After 35 contests, the Gators have already surpassed their 2024 steals total (43) across a total of 66 games. Outfielder Hayden Yost<https://floridagators.com/sports/baseball/roster/hayden-yost/17337> paces the team with nine steals in 10 attempts, which is tied for 16th in the SEC.

SULLY SUPERLATIVES
Coming off the program’s 14th trip to the College World Series and second in as many seasons, O’Sullivan is in his 18th year at the helm. Since O’Sullivan’s 2008 arrival, Florida leads the nation with 37 MLB debuts, 16 NCAA berths (T-1st), 10 top-eight seeds, nine College World Series trips, nine Super Regionals hosted and six SEC titles. The Gators have advanced to nine of the last 14 College World Series.

RELENTLESS REPTILES
By scoring five runs in the ninth to rally from behind in the finale against Ole Miss, Florida has now secured seven come-from-behind victories in 2025. Last season, the Gators delivered 21 wins in comeback fashion, featuring 12 of the team’s 13 SEC wins. Florida trailed in six of its 2024 postseason victories and claimed five-straight NCAA Tournament elimination games to keep its season alive. Going back two seasons, 22 of the 2023 Gators’ program-record 54 victories came via comebacks.
