GAINESVILLE, Fla. – After producing a pair of utterly dominant relief performances against two top-10 foes, Florida sophomore right-hander Jackson Barberi was named the SEC Co-Pitcher of the Week on Monday afternoon.
Sharing honors alongside Ruger Riojas of Texas, Barberi collected the first SEC Weekly accolade of his two-year career. His performance powered the Gators to a perfect 4-0 week against top-10 opponents including a series sweep at No. 4 Arkansas, chucking 3.0 shutout, one-hit innings to secure the save vs. No. 10 FSU before firing another 3 1/3 no-hit innings to earn the series-clinching victory at No. 4 Arkansas.
On the week, Barberi pitched 6 1/3 innings with zero earned runs allowed, giving up just one hit and two walks while striking out 13 batters. Facing No. 10 FSU at a neutral-site on Tuesday, the right-hander fanned six Seminoles, then proceeded to punch out seven without issuing a free pass on Saturday at No. 4 Arkansas. Clinching the series for the Gators against the Razorbacks, Barberi retired the first-nine batters he faced in order.
Across two outings last week, Barberi registered one win, one save, a 0.00 ERA and .043 batting average against. The Snellville, Ga. product has now pitched 23 2/3 innings over a team-high 12 appearances backed by a 2.19 ERA, 0.93 WHIP, .132 BAA and 37-to-11 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
Barberi and the Gators return home for a four-game homestand, beginning with a Tuesday matchup against Jacksonville at 6:30 p.m. on SEC Network+. Florida then hosts Ole Miss in a three-game series from Thursday, April 2 through Saturday, April 4.
