BIRMINGHAM – In the final exhibition match of the season, UAB and Belmont played to a 0-0 draw on Sunday afternoon at PNC Field.
Nine different Blazers registered shots in the match, led by freshmen Stella Lawson and Claire Rea, who had three apiece, with one and two on target, respectably.
Keepers Anika Toth and Eve Beyer split time evenly, with Beyer making the only UAB save of the match.
The Blazers outshot the Bruins 15-3 and held possession for 67% of the contest. UAB had three chances in the final five minutes of play, but Belmont keeper Sarah Doyle was able to turn away shots from Morgan Halliwill, Rea and Jessica Wheeler.
“Exhibition games are always a good chance for us to fine tune what we’ve been working on,” said head coach Erica Demers. “We were hoping to get a result today, but this match was definitely a good step for us.”
The 2022 regular season begins Aug. 18 against Chattanooga at PNC Field. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
“The regular season starts on Thursday night and the players are excited for it.” added Demers. ”
