ATLANTA – Georgia State’s Maddie Johnson’s penalty kick in the 29th minute was all the scoring the Panthers needed in its 2-0 victory over UAB on Wednesday night.
The game started off slow with the teams combining for only four shots in the first 23 minutes. The Blazers’ only 1st half shot on target was by Kristen Goodroe in the 15th minute, but she was stopped by Panthers’ keeper Jaddah Foos.
Johnson’s goal was the only score of the half.
It took just four minutes into the 2nd half for GSU to add an insurance goal when Jimena Cabrero found Jolie Ryff for a score.
The Blazers kept the pressure on the rest of the half, firing six shots on goal, but could not find the back of the net.
UAB keeper Eve Beyer made six saves. Lexxe Lipsey led all players with four shots.
The Blazers close out the 2020 Fall season on Sunday afternoon when they host Middle Tennessee at BBVA Field. Kickoff is set for noon.
