BIRMINGHAM – The UAB women’s basketball team remains in Birmingham, but will travel to crosstown rival Samford on Sunday afternoon. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
UAB LATELY
UAB (5-2) is coming off a 72-52 victory over Miles on Dec. 5. Zakyia Weathersby recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 15 points and 12 rebounds.
SAMFORD LATELY
Samford (3-7) fell to Alabama A&M 72-47 on Dec. 9. Andrea Cournoyer scored 16 points for the Bulldogs.
UAB AND SAMFORD HISTORY
The teams have met nine times since the inception of the series in 1999. UAB leads the series 7-2 and has won the last three matchups. Samford is 2-1 in games at Pete Hanna Center.

Rachael Childress scored 20 points and Zakyia Weathersby tied a Bartow Arena record with six blocks in the Blazers’ 76-69 victory on Dec. 3, 2019.

Weathersby leads the NCAA with 5.7 offensive rebounds per game. She ranks first in Conference USA in blocks (18), blocks per game (2.6), double-doubles (6), field goals made (53), rebounds (86), rebounds per game (12.3) and points per game (18.0).

Both Weathersby (Chicago State/Chattanooga) and Caitlynn Daniels (Mississippi Valley State) each have a 28-point game under their belts this year. This is tied for the second-best single game total in C-USA this season behind Southern Miss’ Dominque Davis who had 29 against Samford.
EIGHT IS ENOUGH
In Daniels career day against MVSU, she drained eight 3-pointers. This is the most in C-USA this season and tied for the sixth most in the NCAA this season.
