BIRMINGHAM – The UAB women’s basketball team opens the 2022-23 regular season on Monday when they host Auburn Montgomery. Tipoff is scheduled for noon.
UAB LATELY
UAB was selected to finish seventh in the 11-team Conference USA. The Blazers are coming off a 16-15 season and return four starters to this season’s squad.
UAM LATELY
UAB was selected to finish 12th in the 13-team Gulf South Conference. The Warhawks are coming off a 6-19 season and return two starters to this season’s squad.
UAB AND UAM HISTORY
The teams played a home-and-home series during the 1986-87 and 1987-88 seasons, with each holding home court.
LAST TIME AGAINST UAM
In the final game in Bell Gym, the then Lady Blazers defeated the then Lady Senators 91-82 on Feb. 23, 1988. Sandra King scored 10 of her game-high 24 points in the final 10 minutes of the contest.
COMMON OPPONENTS
Although UAB and UAM do not share any regular season common opponents, the Warhawks play Shorter in GSC twice this season. The Blazers were 96-53 winners over Shorter in an exhibition game on Nov. 2.
BLAZERS IN SEASON OPENERS
Monday marks the 45th season of UAB women’s basketball. The Blazers are 21-23 all-time in season openers dating back to Nov. 29, 1978.
BLAZERS IN HOME OPENERS
UAB is 31-13 in home openers, including a 25-9 record at Bartow Arena.
UAB AGAINST THE YELLOWHAMMER STATE
UAB is 116-73 (.613) against teams from the state of Alabama.
