UAB Travels to FIU


BIRMINGHAM – UAB hits the road to face FIU on Thursday night in Miami. Tipoff is at 6 p.m. and the game will be streamed on ESPN+.

UAB AND FIU    
The team began the series when FIU joined Conference USA during the 2013-14 season. Their first game was Feb. 6, 2014 in Miami. The teams have met nine times with UAB holding a 5-4 edge. 

ABOUT FIU    
FIU (11-6, 2-2 C-USA) is coming off back-to-back loses against North Texas (56-74) and Rice (78-92). The Panthers are 7-0 at Ocean Bank Convocation Center and have not lost at home since Jan. 31, 2019 – spanning 12 games.
FIU leads C-USA in scoring, putting up 80.2 points per game. Devon Andrews (16.8 ppg) is third in the league in scoring and Osasumwen Osaghae (8.4 rpg) ranks third in C-USA in rebounding. Osaghae makes 69 percent of his field goal attempts, which is the best in the league.

LAST TIME AGAINST FIU    
A dominating performance on both ends of the court, propelled the Blazers to an emphatic 84-65 victory over FIU on Jan. 5, 2019. FIU (10-5, 1-1 C-USA) entered the game third in the nation in scoring, averaging 92.6 points per game but the UAB defense did what it has done all year and stifled the Panthers’ attack. The Blazers entered the matchup holding opponents to just 66.3 points per game and held FIU to its lowest point total this season.

UAB (10-5, 2-0 C-USA) held the Panthers to 27.3 percent (15-for-55) shooting for the game and out rebounded FIU 48-29. Jeremiah Bell led UAB in rebounding with 10 on the night while Will Butler and Lewis Sullivan pitched in with nine and eight, respectively. Four different Blazers recorded a block.
