BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The UAB softball team (13-13) fell to WKU (14-4) 9-3 in its series finale on Sunday afternoon, going 0-3 against the Hilltoppers on the weekend.
Faith Hegh and Sierra Frazier tied with a team-high three hits in the game, while Jolie Readeaux and Jenna Olszewski each had two hits apiece. KK Crocker and Hegh both had an RBI in the contest.
UAB struck first in the top of the first inning after Hegh delivered an RBI single to score Frazier, going up 1-0.
WKU responded with a three-run bottom of the first, overtaking the lead, 3-1.
After a scoreless second frame, the Hilltoppers were able to capitalize in the bottom of the third, scoring four runs on six hits and knocking two home runs.
UAB plated one run in the fourth, with Crocker driving in pinch hitter Lilly Crowe, cutting WKU’s advantage to 7-2.
WKU added two insurance runs in the fifth before the Green and Gold scored the final run of the game in the seventh, with Olszewski scoring.
UAB used five pitchers in the game.
Amy Woodham (2-7), who started the game in the circle, pitched two-thirds of an inning, allowing three runs off three hits with one strikeout.
Emily Kachel pitched 1.2 innings of relief, entering the game in the bottom of the first, allowing one run off one hit and striking a WKU batter. Jaycee Cook, who had a pitch count of nine in the game, allowed three runs.
Sarah Cespedes allowed four hits in 1.2 scoreless innings of work, while Sophie Golliver pitched the final two innings, with WKU scoring two runs on two hits.
