BIRMINGHAM – UAB (18-5, 10-4 C-USA) heads to San Antonio for its first of three consecutive trips to Texas. The Blazers will take on UTSA (12-9, 8-6 C-USA) on Friday night at 6 p.m. and Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.
UAB LATELY
UAB is coming off its second highest scoring output in program history on Monday night when they defeated Rust 117-45. Tony Toney had a breakout game, recording a career-high 23 points on 10-of-14 shooting. Toney was one of six Blazers to score in double-figures. The Blazers are 3-3 on the road this season.
UTSA LATELY
UTSA has not played since Feb. 13 when they finished up a sweep of Florida Atlantic. In the series against the Owls, Jhivvan Jackson averaged 25 points, 7.5 assists and 6.5 rebounds per game in the two-game series en route to being named Conference USA Player of the Week. The Roadrunners are 10-1 at home and have won eight of their last nine games.
UAB AND UTSA HISTORY
The series began in 2014 when UTSA joined Conference USA. In total, the teams have met 11 times, with UAB winning seven of the contests – including last season’s quarterfinal match in the C-USA Championship.
COMMON OPPONENTS
UAB and UTSA have five common opponents this season: Louisiana Tech, North Texas, Rice, Southern Miss and UTEP. The Roadrunners’ series against Charlotte was canceled.
AMONG THE BEST IN THE COUNTRY
Through games played Feb. 23, UAB is tied for 10th in the NCAA with 18 wins.
D-ING UP
In addition to being fourth in the nation in scoring defense (59.1), the Blazers are second in turnover margin (6.1), 14th in FG% defense (39.2) and 15th in scoring margin (+14.8).
UP NEXT
UAB travels to Denton to visit North Texas on March 5-6. The series versus the Mean Green is rescheduled from the first week of the conference season.

Blazer men’s basketball games are set to air on 100.5 ESPN JOX 2 with David Crane and Murry Bartow on the call.
In addition, Crane will host Blazer Sportsline every Tuesday during Conference USA play. The show takes place live from Iron City Grill in downtown Birmingham and features men’s basketball head coach Andy Kennedy and women’s basketball head coach Randy Norton.
The nine-episode show, airs from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Blazer Sportsline can be heard on 100.5 ESPN JOX 2 and fans will be encouraged to tweet questions to @BlazersLIMGC.
