BIMINI, Bahamas – The UAB women’s basketball team will play a pair of games over the holiday weekend in Bimini, Bahamas as part of the 2022 Goombay Splash Nov. 25-26.
The Blazers will face George Mason and LSU. The event will take place at Gateway Christian Academy, which has been the longtime host of the Junkanoo Jam.
UAB LATELY
UAB (3-0) is coming off an 83-81 overtime victory over Valparaiso on Nov. 21 in which it erased an 11-point 3rd quarter deficit. Maria Roters’ layup with 3.3 seconds remaining in the extra frame was the game-winner. Roters finished the night with a career-high 24 points and 11 rebounds. Denim DeShields scored 20 points including three 3-pointers and four assists. Margaret Whitley had 16 points and was a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line.
GEORGE MASON LATELY
George Mason (3-3) has won its last three games. Taylor Jameson is averaging 19.3 points per game during the Patriots’ winning streak.
LSU LATELY
LSU (5-0) is ranked No. 12 in the AP Poll and No. 13 in the USA TODAY Sports/WBCA NCAA Division I Top 25 Coaches Poll. The Tigers lead the NCAA with 108.8 points per game and is second with 43.4 points allowed per game. LSU also leads the nation in FG% (52.7), scoring margin (65.4), FG% defense (24.1), rebounds per game (56.8), rebound margin (28.4), free throws made (25.0) and free throws attempted (34.0).
UAB AND MASON HISTORY
The two teams first met in 1999, with UAB winning 69-46 in Fairfax. They split a home-and-home in 2012 and 2013, with the home team holding court both times.
UAB AND LSU HISTORY
This will be the first time the Blazers and Tigers have met.
COMMON OPPONENTS
UAB and Mason both play FIU this season while both UAB and LSU face Mississippi Valley State.
