BIRMINGHAM – The UAB Department of Athletics is preparing for the upcoming 2020-21 basketball season. In compliance with CDC and state and local public health guidance, UAB is finalizing a socially distanced seating model that allows for approximately 25% capacity at Bartow Arena.
UAB Athletics will be re-allocating fans who have completed their purchase of UAB men’s basketball season tickets for the 2020-21 season beginning the week of October 19 to adhere to social distancing measures. Season ticket holders will be allocated based upon current Blazer Boosters Priority Points and the price type of their tickets purchased. Basketball season ticket holders, UAB students and student-athlete guests will have top priority as seats are allocated leading into the season.
Original season ticket locations from the men’s basketball priority seat allocation will be utilized for 2021-22 renewals or if capacity restrictions change during the 2020-21 season.
The adjusted ticket sales model includes more than six feet of space between each customer’s account, along with an open row between each row that has seats allocated. Fans will be notified of their seat locations and sent their season tickets electronically starting the first week of November. UAB Athletics will also be offering mobile delivery as the default delivery for season tickets this year. However, if printed tickets are preferred, please notify the UAB Athletics Ticket Office by Friday, October 30.
“Although this season will obviously look and feel different, we are committed to providing our Blazer faithful with a product that they will be proud of,” head coach Andy Kennedy said. “We need your support to help us turn Bartow Arena back into one of the best home courts in college basketball.”
Season parking lots are unaffected during the upcoming season, and the Green & Gold Room and Champion Club will both be open at 50% occupancy. If occupancy reaches 50% in traditional premium hospitality areas, Blazer Boosters members with access to Champion Club and Green & Gold Room hospitality will be able to experience similar club amenities in a premium hospitality overflow area located on the Bartow Arena concourse. Blazer Boosters will be sending members more detailed communication in the coming weeks to club seat holders in both areas.
“Our staff has been hard at work to implement these necessary measures to provide a safe game day experience during these unique times,” Director of Athletics Mark Ingram said. “Given our limited capacity model at Bartow Arena during the 2020-21 season, the only way to guarantee your seat is by purchasing season tickets.”
Last week, select 2020-21 men’s basketball season ticket holders received a survey and feedback from the survey will be incorporated as the UAB Athletics Ticket Office re-allocates season ticket holders to implement social distancing measures.
