Rosters for the 2023 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game, which will be played at 7:00 p.m. (ET)/4:00 p.m. (PT) on Saturday, July 8th at T-Mobile Park in Seattle, were announced earlier this evening by Major League Baseball. An introductory list of six names were announced earlier this afternoon on MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM, and the complete rosters were unveiled on MLB Network’s “MLB Tonight.”
The 2023 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game features the top Minor League prospects competing as part of All-Star Saturday. The Futures Game will once again feature a National League vs. American League format, which was introduced in 2019 following 20 years of U.S. vs. World matchups. The game, which is scheduled for seven innings, will begin at 7:00 p.m. (ET/4:00 p.m. (PT) exclusively on SiriusXM and Peacock. As a Peacock/MLB Network production, Dave Sims (play-by-play), Yonder Alonso (analyst), Jonathan Mayo (analyst), Siera Santos (reporter) and Caroline Pineda (reporter) will be on the call. Last year in Los Angeles, the AL claimed a 6-4 victory, led by Oakland’s Shea Langeliers, who homered and was presented with the Larry Doby Award as the game’s most valuable player.
A pair of former Seattle Mariners fan favorites will be featured as managers with two-time All-Star and current MLB Network analyst Harold Reynolds leading the AL Futures squad, while MLB Senior Vice President of On-Field Operations Raul Ibañez manages the NL Futures team.
Major League Baseball, in conjunction with MLB Pipeline, Baseball America and the 30 Major League Clubs, selected the 25 players currently on each team. Each Major League organization is represented and players from all player development leagues were eligible to be selected. Complete Futures Game rosters, prospect analysis and rankings can be found at MLB.com/pipeline.
The teams feature a combined 14 former first round picks (eight on AL; six on NL); two CB-B selections; 10 second round picks; two third round picks; four fifth round selections; two sixth round picks; one seventh round selection; two eighth round picks; one 13th round pick; one 15th round pick; and one 16th round selection.
The top overall pick in last summer’s MLB Draft – Baltimore’s Jackson Holliday – is part of the AL Futures roster. Holliday, who is MLB Pipeline’s new top overall prospect, is joined by seven fellow first round draft picks, including Baltimore’s Heston Kjerstad (2nd overall, 2020); Boston’s Marcelo Mayer (4th overall, 2021); Seattle’s Harry Ford (12th overall, 2021); Boston’s Nick Yorke (17th overall, 2020); New York’s Spencer Jones (25th overall, 2022); Oakland’s Tyler Soderstrom (26th overall, 2020); and Houston’s Drew Gilbert (28th overall, 2022).
On the NL side, MLB Pipeline’s number three overall prospect Jackson Chourio of the Milwaukee Brewers organization highlights the roster alongside six first round draft selections, including Arizona’s Jordan Lawlar (6th overall, 2021); Washington’s Brady House (11th overall, 2021); Philadelphia’s Mick Abel (15th overall, 2020) and Justin Crawford (17th overall, 2022); Chicago’s Pete-Crow Armstrong (19th overall, 2020); and San Diego’s Jackson Merrill (27th overall, 2021).
Seven players who have participated in Development Programs led by MLB and USA Baseball are featured on the Futures rosters, including Lawrence Butler (Breakthrough Series, Hank Aaron Invitational); Crawford (Breakthrough Series, DREAM Series, Hank Aaron Invitational); Harry Ford (DREAM Series); Tim Hence (Breakthrough Series, DREAM Series); J.P. Massey (Breakthrough Series, DREAM Series); Nasim Nunez (Breakthrough Series, Hank Aaron Invitational); and Kyren Paris (Breakthrough Series, Hank Aaron Invitational).
The two squads combine for 11 internationally-born players representing five different countries and territories outside the 50 United States. The Dominican Republic is represented by four players, followed by three players from Cuba, two players from Venezuela, and one apiece from the Bahamas and the Netherlands.
The Minor League Baseball Umpires who will work the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game are Macon Hammond (Southern League), Willie Traynor (Eastern League), Steven Rios Jr. (Texas League) and Rainiero Valero (Southern League).
Among those serving as coaches at the Futures Game are former Major League All-Stars and Mariners legends Adrián Beltré, Jay Buhner, Mike Cameron, Alvin Davis, Félix Hernández, Jamie Moyer, Dan Wilson and Randy Winn. The full coaching staffs for the AL and NL Futures Teams, led by Reynolds and Ibañez, can be seen on the rosters below.
