Tigers Acquire RHP Sawyer Gipson-Long from Minnesota in exchange for RHP Michael Fulmer

DETROIT – The Tigers have acquired righthanded pitcher Sawyer Gipson-Long from the Minnesota Twins in exchange for righthanded pitcher Michael Fulmer.  

Gipson-Long, 24, has combined to make 18 appearances, including 17 starts, between Single A Cedar Rapids and Double A Wichita this season, compiling an 8-6 record with a 4.23 ERA (87.1IP/41ER) and 87 strikeouts. He has posted a 1.12 WHIP and limited opponents to a .236 batting average. Originally selected by the Twins in the sixth round of the 2019 MLB Draft out of Mercer University, he has appeared in 44 games, including 42 starts, in his professional career, posting a 16-15 record with a 4.49 ERA (202.2IP/101ER) and 244 strikeouts. A native of Lithia Springs, GA, Gipson-Long stands 6-foot-4 and weighs 225 pounds. 

Fulmer, 29, has pitched in 41 games out of the Tigers bullpen this season, posting a 3-4 record with two saves, a 3.20 ERA (39.1IP/14ER) and 39 strikeouts.
