BOCA RATON, Fla. – A pair of Florida Atlantic University women’s tennis players, Martina Kudelova and Katerina Filip, received first team All-Conference USA honors as well as doubles recognition and Lexi Silna found a spot on the All-C-USA freshman team.
Kudelova earns first team honors after a strong junior season for the Owls. She won 10 matches in the top singles slot, including wins over Middle Tennessee, Rice and Minnesota early in the year and against VCU, Brown and Boston later in the season. In the season’s gauntlet stretch spanning from March 3-12, she won four matches and was up in the fifth match prior to it being clinched.
Kudelova finished the season with a 10-9 dual-match mark, with five matches ending before she was finished, including her last four. She was named C-USA Player of the Week for her work the first week of April and opened the 2022 season as C-USA’s top performer. For the year Kudelova tallied an 11-14 record.
Joining Kudelova on the first team was fellow junior and doubles partner Filip, a 2021 second team selection. Filip worked as the Owls’ No. 2 singles player and was one of just two upperclassmen. She tallied a 13-4 singles record, including 10 wins without a loss between Feb. 4 and March 30. She was instrumental in FAU going 9-5 in the same span. Filip won a three-set match (7-6 (9-7), 2-6, 6-4) versus Missouri, which was just one of two three-set matches she played and finished in 2022. She won each of the three-set contests with the second being over Wichita State (6-2, 5-7, 6-1).
Kudelova and Filip received second team recognition as a doubles team as well. They worked together for 13 court one decisions, winning six. They were 4-3 in their last 10 matches, including big wins over Georgia State, Missouri, Temple, VCU and Brown. The duo was 5-1 between Feb. 27 and March 30.
Rounding out the honorees in 2022 was Lexi Silna. Silna earns All-C-USA Freshman honors after a rookie season where she posted a 10-5 record playing on court No. 3. In her first dual match tournament, she was 2-0, with wins over Middle Tennessee and Minnesota. Silna was instrumental in the Owls’ 4-3 win over Missouri with wins in both singles and doubles and she also won in doubles versus South Alabama and clinched the match for FAU with a court three win.
Kudelova was the C-USA 2019 Freshman of the Year and is a multi-player of the week honoree. Filip earned C-USA Second Team honors in 2021.
