“ME” MondayTM 12-9-19
By Lynn Lessell
This is a wonderful time of year when we take the time to enjoy celebrations, make travel plans, and share gifts. December is a month when we plan many visits with family, friends, and business associates. It is a joyful time when we rearrange our schedules for what is important regardless of anything else, right?
It is a time we reflect and think about what we want for our family, what we can do for others, and how we will treat ourselves, right?
Why do we not do this all-year-round?
Realistically, it is not always easy to plan travel. Some of our budgets may impose limitations for travel, gift-giving, or contributions. During the holidays and special occasions, we try to make exceptions and find a way to do what we can. Then there is always the excuse we tell ourselves- there is no time to do anything else. We are too busy!
Why are the holidays a valid reason to make time? Why are we so choosy about the “ME” time we plan? Shouldn’t it always be acceptable to make time for ourselves and those we care about? If we are our best selves, then we are the best we can be for everyone else.
What would it feel like to experience ‘holiday cheer, generosity, and self-love’ every day?
Personally, I have been very blessed with many upcoming travel opportunities for special family events to wrap up 2019, start the New Year, and continue right into the spring and summer! My family and extended family are fairly large and everyone has spread apart across the U.S. Luckily, I am able to attend each of these events at this time. Being able to visit with my family is special time I consider something I plan especially for me.
I used to make all of the excuses I mentioned, but no more! If the budget is tight, it doesn’t cost anything to give from the heart, plan quality time with someone special, or even for yourself. Now that I make every day a reason to celebrate, I have given myself the gift of happiness with less stress and much more energy!
What would it feel like if you do not wait for Christmas, Chanukah, or New Year’s Eve to plan something special for yourself or time to spend with special people?
Don’t wait for the end of the month. Plan something sooner rather than later. Be happy! There is no time like the present and happiness is the gift that keeps giving!
