U.S. Census Bureau shows big population growth since July 4, 1776 The Fourth of July is a signature American holiday. It celebrates the date when the Second Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence in 1776.The beginning of our nation was the first successful colonial independence movement against a European power. From sea to shining sea, there will be some manner of celebration, and of course, fireworks.Among the celebrations is the Boston Pops fireworks spectacular, featuring Tchaikovsky’s “1812 Overture.” In the United States of 1812, the population of 7.2 million had a median age of around 16 years old.Now, today’s far more diverse population is over 331 million. The median age calculated in 2017 is the highest in history at 38.5 years, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. |
