The Lions Unstoppable Force Cracked the Vikings Immovable Objects

By: Jeremy T. Ballreich

Sunday October 20th, the Lions upset
the Minnesota Vikings, and their
daunting run defense. And frustrated
their blitzing defense with the run and
the pass.

Jahmyr (Sonic) Gibbs was able to do a
lot more than David (Knuckles)

Montgomery on this gridiron match up.
The second year running back carved
up their defense for 7.7 yards per carry
and two touchdowns. While also
catching four passes for 44 yards.
Jared Goff was perfect through the first
half of another game. Without throwing
an incompletion. 12/12 despite the
pressure of being down 10 to Zero
after the first quarter. The breakout
play of the second half was a 46 yard
touchdown run by Sonic. Then against
a zero blitz look audible to hit Amon-Ra
St. Brown for 24 yard touchdown strike.

While to some the pressure wasn’t
good enough by the Lions defense. But
they did amass 16 total pressures and

4 sacks. Including the one that sealed
the game with 15 seconds on the clock
by SVSU, Lions second year guy
Trevor Nowaske. He stunted into the
Vikings backfield running in behind DJ
Reader. I did say we would have to
scheme up the pressure after the loss
of Aiden Hutchinson in week 6. AG did
exactly that. There were a total of three
sacks by Linebackers. Jack Campbell,
Malcolm Rodriguez, and the
aforementioned Trevor Nowaske. The
other lone sack by a defensive lineman
came from third year vet Josh Paschal.

Brian Branch continues to shine as one
of the top safeties in the league. As he
picked off a pass in the second quarter

intended for second year wide receiver
Jordan Addison.

The icing on the cake was a late fourth
quarter field goal by rookie kicker Jake
Bates to put the Lions ahead by a final
score of 31-29.
