On Saturday at 1 pm on August 19th, 2021. The fans continue to show impressive support for games that mean nothing. And due to offensive woes in this game. It ended with the Back Up and PS guys playing like it meant nothing too!
The Jaguars were last year’s AFC South Division winners. And even their back up team played with that swagger. Both on offense, and defense.
The Goods:
Chase Cota had a TD reception from Nate Sudfeld to start the second half. Which was the teams only points.
Jack Fox did his best to give the defense good position to defend.
Starling Thomas V had a big punt return.
The Dline still seemed to be stronger and deeper than most people thought.
New CB Steven Gilmore had some great plays too.
The Bads:
Teddy Bridgewater had his debut. It wasn’t that great 5 of 11 passing and a 50.6 QBR
Nate Sudfelt pretty much gave Bridgewater the QB2 job with throwing a pick while in scoring position at the end of the first half. I hope he’s cut by Monday.
The offense in general failed to sustain drives to give the defense a true rest between possessions.
The Key Stats that killed the Lions:
1 for 12 on 3rd downs. 2 TOs. 1 fumble 1 interception.
3rd down conversions and winning the turnover battle is what helps a defense.
Good news is, there is no way for the Lions to go undefeated in the preseason. And Preseason records mean less to me than who’s winning the Professional Cricket League in England. But the last time the Lions went undefeated in the preseason, they had their first winless season going 0-16. Maybe I’m too superstitious, but I never want an undefeated preseason. Look at the 24-0 Ravens in the preseason. Since they started that streak, they haven’t returned to the Super Bowl……coincidence?
Thanks for Reading!!!
