The First Round Assessment

By: Jeremy T. Ballreich

Well, there was 5 trades in the first round, and low and behold. Brad Holmes finally traded back in the first. Shocker with the talent on the board.

What we got

Arizona 12th and 34th picks

What we gave

Lions 6th and 81st picks

I’ll give the trade a C- we could have packaged Swift instead if the 3rd round pick. IMO

With the 12th pick the Lions shocked everyone but the FO with selecting the lightning fast Gibbs of Alabama who is more in the mold of Alvin Kamara than Swift. I give it a B- for now.

With the 18th pick. The Lions grabbed the best coverage LB in the draft with a 93.6 coverage grade by PFF. I give this pick a B+

My overall first round grade is a C+ overall. Because I feel there may have been some more talented players they could have chosen. But in Brad Holmes I trust to make the good decisions.

Brad said he chose those players because they are plug and play players for the team and less of the project player types.
