Termination of FTX naming rights and Pompano Beach to dedicate artwork

Miami-Dade Mayor Levine Cava reacts to termination of naming rights for the FTX Arena

From David Volz

On January 11th, a federal judge terminated the naming rights agreement for the FTX Arena. Below is a joint statement from Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and the Miami HEAT.

“When the news first broke about FTX several weeks ago, Miami-Dade County took immediate legal action to terminate our business relationship with FTX. On January 11th, our motion to lift the automatic stay of the FTX’s bankruptcy proceedings to terminate the original naming rights agreement in its entirety was approved.

Miami-Dade County and the HEAT will now work aggressively to identify a new naming rights partner for the arena. We remain proud of the impact our Peace & Prosperity Plan — sponsored by County Commissioner Keon Hardemon and funded through the original deal — is already having in preventing violence and creating opportunity for young people across Miami-Dade. We look forward to identifying a new partner to continue funding these and other new critical programs in the years ahead.”

Pompano Beach to hold dedication event for public artwork

From David Volz

The City of Pompano Beach’s Public Art Committee and Hola Mundo Summer Camp are proud to announce the dedication of Trash the Wave, a temporary public artwork. The colorful sculpture features collected and cleaned trash that was crafted into a sunny beachside scene on a surfboard. Created by over 50 students from Hola Mundo Summer Camp, the artwork is a visible reminder to keep our beaches beautiful. The dedication will take place on Thursday, January 26th at 3:30 p.m., just south of the Family Fisher Pier, at 100 Pompano Square, by the restroom pavilion. The event is free and open to the public.

The students worked together to create a sculptural piece of art by strategically placing the recycled trash to depict a sunny, inviting beach scene. The artwork allows viewers to appreciate the beauty of our natural resources, while contemplating the negative effects leftover trash has on our marine life and for the experience of the next visitor.

Preserving the beach is extremely important to the students at Hola Mundo Beach Camp, as their entire camp experience is based upon learning and playing sports on Pompano Beach.
