The Stoneman Douglas baseball team defeated Taravella 5-0 to win a district championship.Eagles Coach Todd Fitz-Gerald was pleased with the win and said the team played well. He said Chris Arroyo did well at pitcher. “We executed well tonight,” he said. “Baseball hasn’t changed. You have to execute and play well to win.”Fitz-Gerald felt some redemption because the Eagles lost to Taravella early in the season. “Some times losing can be good. The team became more focused. Taravella has a very good team.”There is possibility the teams could meet next Friday night. If both teams win their first round regional games on Tuesday night, they will play again.Taravella Coach Joe Giummule was disappointed with the loss and said the team did not play well. “We had four errors,” he said.Giummule believes if the team improves and does well on Tuesday night, they could face Stoneman Douglas again.Both teams have had good seasons and have done well against out of state teams. Stoneman Douglas is ranked number one in Florida and Taravella is also highly ranked. |
