ATLANTA, July 27th, 2023 – The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) has named the University of South Florida’s Jose Fernandez as the organization’s Vice President for the 2023-24 season.
“I am humbled and excited to serve the WBCA at the executive level,” said head coach Fernandez. “I have a great amount of respect for Danielle (Donehew) and what she has done for our game and coaches association. I look forward to working alongside Courtney and representing women’s basketball coaches at all levels.”
The association, which represents women’s basketball coaches at all levels of competition, welcomed its newest members during the board’s annual in-person summer meeting which was held July 20 at the Atlanta Airport Marriott Gateway hotel.
“Our 2023-24 WBCA Board of Directors is diverse, engaged, experienced and eager to address the challenges facing our association as we continue to navigate the post-pandemic world in which we live,” said WBCA Executive Director Danielle Donehew. “From determining how we can best continue to serve the membership effectively, efficiently, and economically to identifying new revenue streams, the board is working hard to provide strategic vision and tactical direction to my staff and me as we together strive to ensure the continuing success of the association.”
In his 23 seasons at the helm of USF women’s basketball, head coach Fernandez has recorded 11 20-win seasons while leading the program to 18 postseason tournament appearances, nine NCAA Tournament berths, two WNIT final four appearances, the 2009 WNIT championship, has won over 400 career games, and is the all-time wins leader in the American Athletic Conference.
