TAMPA (September 7, 2023) – The University of South Florida men’s soccer (0-3) program welcomes national power #15 Indiana (2-1-1) to Corbett Stadium on Friday, Sept. 8 at 7:00 p.m. The contest will air live on ESPN+.
SETTING THE STAGE
USF continues the hunt for its first victory and home win of the 2023 campaign, as the Bulls have lost three straight games. The Hoosiers enter as winners of two of their last three. In their most recent competition on Sept. 4, IU claimed a 1-0 victory against Seton Hall.
SOUTH FLORIDA-INDIANA SERIES
Friday’s match marks the seventh all-time meeting between the two squads. The parings extend back to the 1984 season. Indiana leads the series against the Bulls, 4-1-1, as USF won the first-ever meeting, 3-1, in 1984. In the last clash, Indiana won, 3-0 on Sept. 3, 2017
LAST TIME OUT
South Florida fell to Mercer, 2-0, on Sept. 1, in its third consecutive loss. Sophomore GK Alan Horrocks logged his third career start and collected a career-best four saves. The Bulls logged 10 shots, with six on goal. Marco Astorga led with two shots on target off of the bench. South Florida owned the advantage in shots (10-8), corner kicks (8-6), and fouls (9-3).
SCOUTING THE HOOSIERS
Freshman forward Collins Odouro is Indiana’s leading scorer with two goals on the year, his single game-winner came against DePaul (Aug. 29). Junior forward Samuel Sarver (1 goal, 2 assists) leads the team in assists and his game-winner was against Seton Hall (Sept. 4). Indiana returns two of its top scorers, experienced members of its defensive third and its favored midfield pairing while bringing in a talented group of freshmen and experienced transfer defender Hugo Bacharach. Juniors Samuel Sarver and Patrick McDonald and freshman Collins Oduro were named Big Ten Players to Watch in the conference’s season preview.
A LOOK AHEAD
The Bulls remain home at Corbett for the next three matchups, facing Clemson on Tuesday, Sept. 12 at 7, followed by Elon (Sept. 17), and SMU (Sept. 22).
USF ATHLETICS HALL OF FAME
Alumni Jeff Attinella has been selected as a member of the 2023 USF Athletics Hall of Fame Class and will be inducted on Thurs., Nov. 9. An NSCAA First-Team All-American goalkeeper (2009), Attinella is one of two student-athletes to receive that honor in USF men’s soccer history. A three-time All-Region selection and three-time Big East All-Conference honoree, earning first-team honors in both in 2009, Attinella played on four NCAA Tournament Teams and helped lead the 2007 team to the NCAA Sweet 16 and the 2008 team to the NCAA Elite Eight.

USF Men’s Soccer competed in the school’s first-ever intercollegiate athletic contest on Sept. 25, 1965, beating Florida Southern 4-3. Since then, the oldest program on campus has built a winning tradition, claiming 14 conference championships and making 22 NCAA Tournament appearances, including 3 trips to the elite eight.
