FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern Softball team was recently named 24th in the latest NFCA Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll. This is NSU’s first appearance in the poll after entering the season not ranked.
The 2023 NFCA Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll is voted on by the NFCA Division II Top 25 Poll Committee. The committee consists of 16 NCAA Division II head coaches with two representing each of the NCAA’s eight regions.
The Sharks swept Florida Tech in their SSC opener this past weekend, bringing their overall record to 10-3, 3-0 SSC. NSU also has wins over Alabama Huntsville and Valdosta State, who are ranked 8th and 17th respectively in the poll.
Tampa native Alexis Smith has been leading the Sharks with her stellar play. Smith recently broke the NSU single season triples record, recording nine triples through 13 games. The Robinson HS product has a .553 batting average, 18 RBIs, 26 hits, and 21 runs scored so far this season. Smith also ranks first in the SSC in RBIs, hits, and runs scored, as a team the Sharks lead the SSC in hits, RBIs, and runs scored.
NSU will be back at the AD Griffin Sports Complex for another SSC matchup, this time facing Rollins, Friday Feb. 24, 6:00 p.m.
