CORAL GABLES, Fla. – For the second time in three weeks, the University of Miami soccer team has had a player garner ACC Defensive Player of the Week honors, as Sophomore defender Emilie McCartney earned the award for her exceptional play this past week.
McCartney was named the Co-Defensive player of the Week alongside Notre Dame’s Leah Klenke, marking the first time in her career that McCartney has earned the honor.
McCartney has been an instrumental piece for Miami this season, as she has played in and started all 14 games for the Hurricanes. McCartney has played the full 90 minutes in all 14 games, as she leads the team with 1,260 minutes played this season.
She had another stellar effort in Miami’s 0-0 draw against Pittsburgh this past Thursday, anchoring a Canes defense that limited Pitt to zero shots on target.
McCartney and the rest of the Miami squad will return to the field this Thursday, as they are set to open a two-game road swing at Syracuse with kick off set for 7 p.m.
