IRVING, Texas – 2024 American Athletic Conference Women’s Golf Champions SMU, along with Tulsa, are two of the 30 teams that advanced from regional play to the finals of the 2024 NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championship, to be conducted May 17-22 at Omni La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, California.
The championship format in Carlsbad will include 30 teams and six individuals completing 54 holes of stroke play, and then the top 15 teams along with the top nine individuals not on an advancing team competing for one additional day of stroke play to determine the top eight teams for match play competition and the 72-hole stroke play individual champion. The top eight teams then compete in match play for the team national championship to be decided May 22.
For a second straight year, the Mustangs will head to the NCAA Championship, finishing tied for second place in the NCAA Bryan Regional at 4-under 860. SMU had two top ten finishes in Mckenzie Lee and Ellie Szeryk. Lee shot 5-under 211 over the three rounds to finish tied for 6th place, while Szeryk shot 3-under 213 to finish in 8th place. Emily Odwin finished tied for 17th place, shooting 3-over 219, while Tess Davenport rounded out the scoring for the Mustangs in 28th place at 6-over 222.
The Golden Hurricane earned its 21st NCAA Championship bid and back-to-back appearance, tying for 4th place at the NCAA Auburn Regional. As a team, the Golden Hurricane shot 27-over 891. Tulsa was paced by sophomore Grace Kilcrease, shooting 1-over 217 to finish in 7th place. Teammate Sydney Seigel finished in 13th place, shooting 5-over 221. Lovisa Gunnar tied for 25th place at 11-over 227, while Allyn Stephens tied for 30th place at 13-over 229.
