MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Sunshine State Conference Women’s Basketball Preseason Coaches Poll was released earlier Tuesday afternoon, with Nova Southeastern being selected for third in the league. Eckerd was tabbed for the top spot, earning 97 points and seven of the 11 first-place votes.
Head coach LeAnn Freeland-Curry stated, “It is nice to see the SSC has great respect for our current roster. I believe our team has tremendous potential, but we need to keep grinding harder every day to reach it. With so many new faces, we must grow and adapt quickly to be ready for our season opening weekend against two south region opponents.”
After earning their tenth straight trip to the SSC tournament this past season. The Sharks look to build on that this upcoming season with the addition of several key transfers and the return of all the returners.
Madison Frederick (Iowa State), Zeyno Seren (New Mexico), Emma Krause (William & Mary), Suzan Kinran (UC Riverside) and Kyannah Grant (UT-Martin) come to NSU after spending some time at the D-I level. Mackenzie Steele also comes to the Shark Tank after playing the first four years of her career in the Sunshine State Conference with Florida Southern.
NSU will begin its 2022-2023 campaign on the road at the GSC/SSC Crossover Classic, against two non-conference opponents. The Sharks head to Montevallo, AL to face The University of Montevallo on November 11th and Auburn University Montgomery on November 12th. League play begins on Saturday, November 19th, with 8 of 11 teams in action.
Nova Southeastern returns to the Shark Tank on Fri., Nov. 19, facing off against Flagler College at 2 p.m.
