The athletic point guard was a stat stuffer and a leader at Seminole Ridge High School
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern’s women’s basketball team announced their first addition to the upcoming roster this offseason, as Belle Glade, Fla., native India Shepherd has signed her National Letter of Intent to join the Sharks family.
Shepherd, a 5’4 point guard from Seminole Ridge High School, led the Lady Hawks to a 19-6 overall record, culminating in the school’s first ever girl’s basketball district title in 2020.
Immediately, Shepherd’s video game like numbers jump off the page across the board on first glance. She compiled 16 points per game in her senior season, while also posting 8.1 rebounds, 8 assists (201) and 5.4 steals (132). Shepherd is known for her high motor, defensive prowess and ability to share the ball. As a result, she finished the season ranked 12th in the nation in assists per game at the high school level.
What might be even more impressive is the fact Shepherd posted three triple doubles and a rare quadruple double this past season with the Lady Hawks. On Dec. 11, she recorded her first triple double on the road against Leonard with 17 points, 15 rebounds and 13 assists. The very next game at Boynton Beach was one she will never forget, scoring 24 points, with 10 rebounds, 12 assists and an incredible 18 steals.
Shepherd would go on two post a 21 point, 11 rebound and 13 assist effort on Jan. 3 vs. Dr. Krop, and completed her third triple double against Royal Palm Beach on Jan. 30, stringing together 22 points, to go along with 10 assists and 10 steals.
When awarded the Land Rover Palm Beach Player of the Week in February, Shepherd credited the uptick in her game from her experience last summer playing travel ball with the Wellington Wolves, paving way to a spectacular senior season.
“India had a break-out senior year at Seminole Ridge HS for Coach Maria Hudson,” said head coach LeAnn Freeland-Curry about the signing. “I had the opportunity to watch her five times and every time I saw her, I was impressed by her overall production and competitive spirit. She impacts the game on both ends of the floor. She is a defensive stopper in the full court, anticipates passes well for steals, and rebounds the ball extremely well. On the offensive end, she pushes the ball in transition, has great court vision and has a knack for creating shots for her teammates. We feel India is a perfect fit for our system and we are excited to help push her to another level, as Coach Hudson did at Seminole Ridge. She has a tremendous up-side to her game. Our coaches and players are excited to announce India Shepherd is a Shark.”
