The Gators Men’s team is projected to finish seventh and the Women’s team is projected to finish fourth.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Florida Gators men’s cross country team has been projected to finish seventh and the women’s team is projected to finish fourth in the South Eastern Conference 2022 Cross Country Preseason Coaches’ Poll released Monday.
Alabama men’s and women’s teams are projected to win the conference, receiving six and eight first-place votes respectively.
This year, both the men’s and women’s teams enter the season with an abundance of youth and experience.
The men’s team comes into the season without a senior on the roster. They feature two new faces in Adam Magoulas and Matthew Stratton. The team returns nine runners who have SEC Championships experience: Ethan Geiger, Cavan Wilson, Joe Wester, Michael Fiore, Matt Mule’, Angel Vicioso, Reed Legg, Javi Vento and Josh Stern.
Parker Valby who leads the women’s team, finished fourth at the 2021 SEC Championships. The women’s team adds five freshman runners in Caroline Bauer, Annie Loehle, Angelina Perez, Lucinda Rourke and Breanna Stuart. Kathryn Nohilly is the lone transfer addition, joining the Gators from George Washington where she finished 10th at the 2021 Atlantic 10 Conference Championships. The team returns nine runners who have SEC Championships Experience: Parker Valby, Vasileia Spyrou, Stephanie Ormsby, Jordan Shapiro, Imogen Barrett, Emily Culley, Liina Winborn, Chloe Hyde and Rylee Pustilnik.
Florida begins its cross country season with the UCF Invite on September 2 in Orlando.
