Seahawks Have Their Way With The Lions Defense

Seahawks Have Their Way With The Lions Defense.

October 2nd, 2022 may mean big changes either by scheme or who is doing the Defensive playcalling overall.

The coin toss was won by Detroit (Big mistake IMO) and deferred to the second half to receive the kickoff. Opening drive it was obvious why Geno Smith was the most accurate QB in the league coming into this game. They methodically marched down the field for an opening drive TD.

There would be a lot of this, because neither defense was really stopping anyone. The Lions Defense looked lethargic, and uninspired. Played with little or no intensity.  While blitzing is considered when you use 4 or more pass rushers. According to the letter of that particular stat. They never rushed more than 4 the entire game.

The end of the day. The defense only managed 5 pressures the entire game 3 were from rookie DE/OLB Aidan Hutchinson, who also manged 2 QB hits. But other than that, solid play again from Veteran LB Alex Anazalone, and rookie Starter Malcolm Rodriguez. Derrick Barnes even got on the stat sheet with a big 2nd down tackle on a Seattle RB.

There was an onslaught of scoring in this game. But with never taking a lead in the game.

The ultimate conclusion was a final score of 48-45 with the Seahawks winning the game.

Lack of second half adjustments on defense, coupled with a few key injuries. This defense is sorely lacking with the talent of the offense on this team  (that was missing 5 starters of their own)!

I blame the lack of pass rush on 2 coaches. Defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, and Defensive Line Coach Todd Wash. This Defensive Line was supposed to be the strength of this defense. But with a lack of pressures on a QB. It exposes how mediocre the rest of the defense is.
