S&D: Inouye Shines in Dual Meet with Yale

Freshman continues impressive start to season

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The No. 24 Hurricanes women’s swimming & diving team continued its season on the road Friday against host Yale at the Payne Whitney Gymnasium.

Coming off a sweep of a tri-meet last Friday over Rutgers and SMU during Homecoming weekend, Miami picked up early individual swimming wins and outscored the Bulldogs in between the lanes over the course of the meet.

Competing without their diving contingent, however, the Hurricanes dropped the meet by a final score of 155-139.

Freshman Marissa Inouye and veteran Adrianna Cera set the tone in the 1,000-yard freestyle, taking the top two spots in the event to score early points for the Hurricanes. Inouye touched the wall in a time of 10:02.51, while Cera finished in 10:08.91.

Inouye picked up another win the 200-yard freestyle (1:49.10) ahead of teammate and second-place finisher Savannah Barr (1:51.05), while MK Kelley took third in the 100-yard backstroke (55.83).

Miami added another win from a standout freshman when Ashlyn Massey finished the 200-yard butterfly (1:58.97), while Giulia Carvalho (23.17) and Jane Fitzgerald (23.56) took first and third, respectively, in the 50-yard freestyle.

Freshman Simone Moll was second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:01.80) and veteran Emma Sundstrand (1:04.15) was third.

Fitzgerald (51.67) and Barr (51.92) delivered the top two performances in the 100-yard freestyle. Miami topped Yale in swimming events, 139-123.

The Hurricanes continue their season at the SMU Invite Nov. 21-23 in Dallas, Texas.
