TAMPA, March 10, 2023 – The University of South Florida softball team fell to the Illinois Fightnin’ Illini, 4-0, on Friday afternoon.
Freshman Jaden Martinez (Tallahassee) earned her sixth start of her career. She pitched five innings, allowing seven hits and one earned run. She struck out one.
Antoinette Hill (Braidwood, Ill.) and Morgan Grubb (Bartow) each pitched one inning. They both allowed one hit, while Grub allowed one walk.
Hallie Bryant (Trenton) started off the game with a single to right field and got out on a fielder’s choice from Meghan Sheehan (Forest Hills, Md).
Illinois took the 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning on three errors by the Bulls.
In the fifth inning, Jordyn Kadlub (Wesley Chapel) reached on an error by the pitcher and then advanced on a single and then a fielder’s choice. She was the closest to scoring a run for the Bulls.
Illinois added their last run in the sixth inning.
Rian Eigenmann (Millville, N.J.), Alyssa Rano (Seminole), and Vivian Ponn (Fort Myers) also got a hit in the game.
Up Next
South Florida and Illinois are set for a rematch tomorrow at 4:30 p.m. They will then face Marist at 7 p.m.
