BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic softball team turned a 7-1 deficit into an 8-7 comeback victory against Tulsa on Friday evening.
With the win, the Owls move to 39-13 overall and 19-6 in the American Athletic Conference, remaining firmly in the mix of the top spot in the AAC standings.
THE GAME
The Owls fell behind early against the Golden Hurricane early as they took the lead 3-0 in the second inning. In the fifth inning, Kylie Hammonds scored to put the Owls on the board. Tulsa extended the lead with a four-run sixth inning. Graduate Becca Jones pinch hit in the sixth, which resulted in a two-run homer to left field to put the Owls at three runs on the night.
The Owls flipped a switch in the bottom of the seventh. After Presley Leebrick doubled to right field, Kamryn Jackson reached on a hit-by-pitch. Jackson now has a total of 17 on the year, leading the league and ranking No. 9 in the nation. Leebrick would then score on a passed ball for the first run of the inning. With no outs, Kiley Channell singled to shortstop and Jesiana Mora was able to capitalize on the error by the Golden Hurricane to score the second run of the inning. Catcher Megan Moll recorded her second hit of the game to score Abby Ota from second to tie the game. With bases loaded, Hammonds approached the plate and walked with bases loaded to win the game.
Trinity Schlotterbeck started in the circle for the Owls and registered her 21st start of the season. Sophomore Jaden Martinez, went in relief for Schlotterbeck in the top of the seventh. Martinez recorded her fourth win of the season to improve her record to 4-3 on the year.
