SB: Bulls Fall to No. 5 Clemson

TAMPA, Feb. 23, 2023 – After a midweek sweep, the University of South Florida softball team fell to the #5/5 Clemson Tigers, 6-0, on the opening night of the USF Invitational on Thursday night.   

Clemson struck early with a two-run home run in the first inning. South Florida had no action until the bottom on the third inning when Rian Eigenmann (Millville, N.J.) singled through the left side. She quickly stole second and then advanced to third on a single from Emilee Hanlon (Dunkirk, N.Y.).  

The Bulls got a spark in the bottom of the seventh when Vivian Ponn (Fort Myers) hit a double that was a few feet short from being a homerun.  

Redshirt-freshman Payton Dixon (Smryna, Del.) earned the start in the circle for USF. The left-hander went 5.2 innings and struck out two. Lexie Kopko (Stewartstown, Pa.) and Antoinette Hill (Braidwood, Ill) also saw action in the circle.  

NOTABLES 

  • Emilee Hanlon has a five game on-base streak. 
  • She, Ponn, and Eigenmann earned a hit in the game.  

Up Next 

The Bulls will continue the USF Invitational tomorrow with a matchup against #9/12 Tennessee. First pitch is set for 5:30 p.m.
