Rimington Trophy Names Jake Slaughter to Preseason Watch List

Jake Slaughter has been named to the 2025 Rimington Trophy preseason watch list.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Senior center Jake Slaughter has been named to his second award watch list for the 2025 season with the Rimington Trophy.

The Rimington Trophy is presented each year to the most outstanding center in Division I College Football. The award is named after University of Nebraska’s 1981 and 1982 All-America center Dave Rimington. At that time Rimington was the only player to win the Outland Trophy twice and went on to play in the NFL for the Cincinnati Bengals.

Following his NFL career, Rimington started to get involved in the Boomer Esiason Foundation, which was started by his NFL teammate Boomer Esiason for his son Gunnar who was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis. The foundation works to provide financial support for research regarding a cure for the disease. Rimington has served as the president of this foundation since 1995 and the Rimington Trophy has been sponsored by the foundation for over 15 years, raising over $5 million.

Being regarded as one of the nation’s best centers, Slaughter has earned a spot to the Rimington Trophy’s preseason watch list. In the 2024 season, Slaughter was ranked fifth nationally among centers with an offense grade of 81.1 and was seventh in the country with a run block grade of 79.0. Slaughter also led the team in PFF offense, pass block and run block grades and led the offensive line with 800 snaps after starting all 13 games for the season.

Returning for a final season, Slaughter has already amassed several preseason nominations. Including being named to the Outland Trophy preseason watch list, SEC Media Preseason All-SEC First Team and Sporting News Preseason All-America First Team.

The 40-man watch list is narrowed down to a winner using the first teams listed by the Walter Camp Foundation, Sporting News and Football Writers Association of America. The player that receives the most first team votes from these three publications is named the winner of the trophy.
