Rice Continues Run, Defeats UTSA 62-58 in Quarterfinals of 2025 American Women’s Basketball Championship

FORT WORTH, Texas – No. 9 Rice advanced to the semifinals of the 2025 American Women’s Basketball Championship with a 62-58 win over No. 1 seed UTSA on Monday afternoon, March 10, at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.

With the win, the Owls (16-16) will face the winner of Temple and Charlotte on Tuesday, March 11 at 7 p.m. ET/6 p.m. CT. Rice improved to 6-0 all-time in American Championship history. It was also the third consecutive season that the No. 1 seed lost its first game of the Championship.

The Owls outscored the Roadrunners (26-4) by 11 points over the middle two quarters to take a 49-40 lead into the final period. UTSA cut the Rice lead to 52-51 on a layup by American Player of the Year Jordyn Jenkins with 4:42 left, but the Owls pushed the lead to nine with an 8-0 run over the next three minutes while forcing four turnovers to pull away.

Malia Fisher led three Owls in double figures with 16 points. Aniah Alexis added 15 points, while Dominque Ennis had 13.

Jenkins led all scorers with 22 points for the Roadrunners.
