BOCA RATON, Fla. – Head Coach Steve Grotowski and the reigning CUSA Champion Florida Atlantic beach volleyball team have announced their upcoming 2024 season schedule, which will kick off on February 23.
The Sandy Owls are set to compete in 10 tournaments during the 2024 regular season, visiting Tampa, UAB, Georgia State, FGCU, LSU, Florida State, and Stetson, as well as hosting three home tournaments in Boca Raton. The Owls will begin postseason play in Youngsville, Louisiana for the Conference USA Championship, and will seek their third consecutive appearance in Gulf Shores, Alabama for the 2024 NCAA Championship.
Florida Atlantic enters 2024 off the program’s most awarded season ever. The Sandy Owls produced a 19-14 record in 2023, marking the second-most by any Owl team. Florida Atlantic also earned its first-ever CUSA championship and second-ever NCAA Championship berth, marking the first time in program history that the Sandy Owls won their conference championship and earned an NCAA postseason berth in the same year. The Owls also closed out the season receiving national attention as the No. 12 team in the nation.
The Sandy Owls will kick off the 2024 campaign in Tampa for the Tampa Invite on Feb. 23-24, taking on Georgia State, South Carolina, Arizona State, and host Tampa. Florida Atlantic will then open the month of March in Alabama as the Sandy Owls compete in the UAB Beach Classic on March 2-3, facing off against UT Martin, CUSA foes UAB and UTEP, and Eastern Kentucky. Next, the Sandy Owls will travel to Atlanta on March 6 for the Georgia State Day of Duals, taking on Austin Peay, Mercer, and host Georgia State.
Florida Atlantic kicks off its 2024 home schedule on March 12, hosting Florida State and FGCU for the Capri Classic. The following weekend, the Sandy Owls will host their second home tournament of the season on March 15-16, welcoming CUSA newcomer TCU, reigning national champion USC, PBA, and rival FIU.
Next, the Sandy Owls will cross Alligator Alley for a pair of duals in Fort Myers as they take on PBA and host FGCU. Florida Atlantic will then close out the month of March in Louisiana, competing in LSU’s Death Volley Invitational against USC, Cal, UCLA, and Stanford on March 29-30.
Florida Atlantic opens up the month of April in Tallahassee, Florida as the Sandy Owls compete in the Florida State Unconquered Invitational on April 6-7, facing off against North Alabama, Texas A&M – Corpus Christi, LMU, and conference foe UAB. The Sandy Owls close out their regular season home slate on April 13-14, hosting FGCU, Tulane, South Carolina, and rival FIU for the Beach Burrow Bash.
The Sandy Owls will wrap up the regular season on the road, visiting DeLand, Florida for Stetson’s Tournament on April 19, facing off against host Stetson and North Florida.
The Conference USA Championship will kick off postseason play in Youngsville, Louisiana on April 25-27 and then the NCAA Championship tournament will once again be in Gulf Shores, Alabama on May 3-5.
