Regular Season Week 3
Thursday, Sept. 19, 2019
MINSHEW MANIA: Rookie QB Gardner Minshew II, appearing in his third career game and making his second career start, completed 20 of 30 passes (66.7 comp. pct.) for 204 yards and two TDs for a passer rating of 108.2. Through three games, Minshew has completed 65 of 88 passes (73.9 comp. pct.) for 692 yards, five TDs and one INT for a passer rating of 110.6. Minshew has now tied the franchise record with three consecutive games with at least 200 passing yards and a passer rating of at least 95.0., and he’s the only rookie in franchise history to throw for at least 200 yards in each of his first three career games played.
CALAIS CASHING CHECKS: DL Calais Campbell posted seven tackles, including 3.0 sacks, in Thursday’s victory. Campbell became the first player in franchise history to post multiple games with at least 3.0 sacks – Campbell owns the franchise record for sacks in a single game when he posted 4.0 against Houston in the 2017 season opener. In 2019, Campbell and his CRC Foundation is committed to the Season of Giving, a charitable campaign with funds directed to four deserving charities based on several performance-based metrics. After tonight’s game, Campbell will donate $18,000 for his 3.0 sacks, tackle for loss and a team victory. Campbell has now totaled 5.0 sacks in his last two home games against the Titans and 9.0 sacks in his last six home games against divisional opponents.
SACKSONVILLE IS BACK: During Thursday night’s victory, the Jaguars totaled 9.0 sacks, while the offense did not allow any sacks. The Jaguars’ 9.0 sacks were tied for the third-most in a game in franchise history, and Thursday’s victory marked the third time under Head Coach Doug Marrone (since 2017) that the Jaguars posted at least 9.0 sacks. The Jaguars are the only team in the NFL to post at least 9.0 sacks three-or-more times since 2017.
QUICK-SCORING DRIVE: P Logan Cooke booted it 50 yards in the first quarter, and the ball was muffed by Titans punt returner Adoree’ Jackson and recovered by Jaguars LB Leon Jacobs. After recovering the muffed punt, the Jaguars scored on their first play: a 7-yard TD pass from QB Gardner Minshew II to TE James O’Shaughnessy. The TD drive lasted just five seconds and was tied for the third-shortest scoring drive in Jaguars history.
CHARK ATTACK: Second-year WR DJ Chark Jr. caught four passes for 76 yards (19.0 rec. avg.) and one TD in Thursday’s victory. In 2019, Chark has caught 15 passes for 277 yards (18.5 rec. avg.) and three TDs. After Thursday’s game, Chark’s 277 receiving yards are the most in the NFL and his three receiving TDs are tied for tops in the league. Chark is now the second player in franchise history – and the first since WR Jimmy Smith in 2008 – to catch a TD pass in each of the first three games of the season. At 22 years old, Chark is the youngest player in franchise history to post more than 250 receiving yards through Week 3 of the season.
SACK-FUMBLE BY JOSH ALLEN: DE Josh Allen, the seventh overall selection in the 2019 NFL Draft, registered 2.0 sacks in Thursday’s game, including a sack-fumble. The former Bronco Nagurski award winner totaled 17.0 sacks in 2018 at Kentucky, the most by an SEC player in a single season since the NCAA started official sack records in 2000.
LAMBO LEAP: K Josh Lambo converted FGs from 40 and 48 yards and has now made 44 of 47 FG attempts with the Jaguars since he signed with the team on Oct. 17, 2017, including 31 consecutive regular season FGs at home. Overall, his 93.6 FG pct. is the highest in franchise history (min. 10 FGA). During his tenure with the Jaguars, Lambo has converted 17 of 18 FGs against divisional opponents (94.4 pct.).
