JAGUARS GENERAL MANAGER TRENT BAALKE
IN-GAME MEDIA AVAILABILITY
SATURDAY, AUGUST 17, 2024
(On how the team has performed throughout the preseason so far) “So far, so good. We’re
staying healthy, that’s the main thing.”
(On achieving what he wanted to get done in the offseason and through training camp)
“Well, we got a lot done. There are still things we’re working on. Like I’ve always said, the
roster’s always a work in progress. We’re going to follow this game, taking a hard look at this
game like we did last game. We’ve got some important decisions coming up.”
(On why it was important to re-sign QB Trevor Lawrence, DE Josh Hines-Allen and CB Tyson
Campbell) “We said from the get-go, from when we first got here, that signing the core
players—that had to be our focus. We were fortunate enough to get some big deals done
this summer with some guys that we believe are foundational pieces on both sides of the
ball.”
(On if it sets the Jaguars up for future seasons) “Well, it’s a positive step for the
organization. You look at it and these guys want to be here. They want to be in this city, they
want to be a part of this organization. We’re going to continue to look for guys just like this.”
(On the recent contributions of last year’s draft class, namely RB Tank Bigsby, WR Parker
Washington and LB Ventrell Miller) “Yeah, I think we’ve got 10 of the 11 guys we drafted still
out here. That year one to year two jump that we always talk about is real. I think you’re
starting to see it now with these guys.”
(On evaluating a player in practice as opposed to when in a game) “It all matters. Obviously,
the game tape’s the game tape and you put a lot of stock in that. But you want to see how
they work day-to-day, how they prepare both mentally and physically to get themselves
ready for this day. We’re fortunate, we’ve got a really good culture right now. These guys
want to be here. They want to be involved, they bought in and they’re working tremendously
hard both on the field and in the classroom.”
(On how QB Mac Jones has impacted the quarterback room) “He did, he’s an energizer. You
can’t help but notice it on the practice field and around the building. He loves the game,
and it shows in everything he does. The preparation he puts in, he’s one of the first ones in
and one of the last to leave. It’s just exciting to see him go out there and have some
success.”
(On the thinking behind signing veteran players such as OL Mitch Morse, DE Arik Armstead
and S Darnell Savage this offseason) “Exactly what you said, leadership. They’ve come from
organizations that have had a lot of success. They’re guys that we have put a lot of stock
into when they were coming out in the draft, and we follow their careers like we always do.
We grade these guys every year, these were guys that from a coaching staff standpoint and
a personnel standpoint really felt fit our scheme, our system and our culture.”
(On Defensive Coordinator Ryan Nielsen having the defense playing at a high level) “Well
he’s a leader first and foremost, he’s got a good scheme, he’s got a tremendous coaching
staff, his system, and the players have really bought into what he’s teaching.”
On how to change the physicality of a team) “I think it’s just a mindset. It’s something that
we worked on all offseason in the preparation phases, in the weight room. We’ve done a lot
of talking about it within the building, within the organization. We want to be the most
physical team on the field on that day. That’s our goal. We want to be smart, we want to be
physical. We want to be in shape and conditioned and mentally sharp.”
(On the defensive line performing well against Tampa Bay in joint practices) “Well, they’re a
good football team. They really are, all across the board. I think they do a tremendous job.
It’s a first-class organization. Jason [Buccaneers General Manager Jason Licht] and Coach
Bowles [Buccaneers Head Coach Todd Bowles] really run a tight ship, and it was fun to just
go out there and work. There wasn’t a lot of pushing and shoving; it was just good, clean
work on both sides.”
(On what has impressed him about WR Brian Thomas Jr.) “Well, just his speed and the fact
that that’s a tough position as you know to come in as a rookie. That position is one of the
harder ones to pick up. Tremendous effort on his part learning the system. He’s a smart
young man, comes to work every day. And the older guys, I’m proud of the older guys.
They’ve wrapped their arms around him and helped him grow as fast as he can grow.”
(On DT Maason Smith) “Well I think we’ve got to remember with Maason [Smith] he’s really
played a year and a half of college football. He’s a big man. He’s an athletic guy. He’s got a
lot to learn. The thing you love about him, and it’s going to sound redundant, but these guys
come to work. They really do. They work their tail ends off all offseason. We’ve structured
it in such a way that we’re giving them more reps than we’ve ever given the rookie class for a
reason, to put them in those situations.”
(On the emphasis on onboarding the rookie class in the offseason) “Well, we’ve got to put
more stress on them. That was the thing we talked about. We can’t give them a rookie
season, we’ve got to get them ready to play now. We kept them two and half weeks longer
than we’ve kept the previous two rookie classes so they got a shorter break. We’ve
demanded more of them mentally and physically and we’ve put them in situations in the
game that we weren’t putting them in the previous two years, earlier in the game when it
matters and it counts. I think it’s been a very successful transition for us.”
(On how to figure out which guys will be on the final roster) “Well, that’s a good question.
Obviously, the film matters and what they do during the week matters, all the things that go
into this decision with the coaches. We’re going to spend a lot of time with the coaches
going through each individual player, position. Who belongs on the practice squad? Who
do we want on the 53? Trying to create as much depth and competition as we can across
the board.”
(On position groups that have impressed during training camp) “It’s hard to single out any
one position group, I think there’s a lot of competition on this team. Usually, you go in and
you might have two or three bubble guys, I think we’ve got a lot more than that in terms of
just competition to make the final 53. Are we going to keep six at one position or seven?
There’s just going to be a lot of debates that go on during the course of the next 10 days to
figure this out.”
JAGUARS RUNNING BACK TANK BIGSBY

(On how his body feels after seeing more reps in tonight’s game) “I feel healthy, I feel good,
just ready to go like I told you last week. Just ready to go, get going and I feel great.”
(On if he saw any tells from the Buccaneers in joint practices) “Yeah, just going over how
they blitz, their safety rotation, same things were in the game. So, when they did it, it was
kind of easy to pick up. Just grinding day by day with each other and getting better. Going
against a jammed defense and just doing what we do best. It was good. Recognizing that in
practice and in the game, it was good.
(On the offensive line’s performance) “Those guys were fighting. We all try to put our best
foot forward and fight. We’ve got to go, when practice starts on Monday, out there and get
better every day. But those guys did their job, they did what they were supposed to do. As
runners, we have to make people miss and that’s our job, to create things and make things
happen. But they did a great job, they are improving a lot and we are improving in the
running back room, so it’s amazing.”
(On what stood out to him about QB Mac Jones’ performance) “Mac is just always himself.
He’s never trying to be anyone else; he always is himself. He’s a joyful person, he loves to
have fun, he’s always himself. I like that about Mac. He did really good out there, and he
was just playing free and fun. So, it all comes down to that, having fun out there, and that’s
what he did.”
QUARTERBACK MAC JONES
POSTGAME MEDIA AVAILABILITY
SATURDAY, AUGUST 17, 2024
Q. First win as a Jacksonville Jaguar, how does that feel?
QB MAC JONES: Good. Yeah, it was fun. I think going out here with a great team and
people that I’ve gotten to know over the past few months has been real fun and [we’ve] just
got to keep carrying that momentum and it’s a one-week season—everyone always says
that. In the preseason too, you’ve got to stack good days and move on to the next game.
So, [I’m] really looking forward to Atlanta next week, too.
So often in the preseason, you want to worry about your own performance, but you
kind of have to realize that a lot of the other guys on this roster are relying on you to
help them put good stuff on tape as well. Can you talk about that responsibility and
being able to put a couple touchdowns on the board for your guys?
MAC JONES: Yeah, I think there’s always things we can clean up and I’ve been very
fortunate to be a starter and not have to play, and then also in this situation having to play.
But I always want to be on the field and these guys always want to be on the field. So, I
know it means a lot to a lot of people and we’re going to show passion and energy. I
thought the young guys in the offensive line did a good job overall and the starters did a
good job on the sideline communicating. That’s another thing you look for in those
situations like [QB] Trevor [Lawrence] and everybody, and [WR] Christian [Kirk] and [WR]
Gabe [Davis]. So, I thought it was good for all of us to come together and win.
Was it a little bit of a mixed bag in terms of protection tonight? But on the two
touchdown passes, you did get the time?
MAC JONES: Yeah, yeah, but I mean, it’s a tough defense. They’re going to light us up a
little bit and they did a good job. Sometimes in preseason, they don’t bring blitzes and
sometimes they don’t really care. So, you’re going to get both in every game, and I
expected it. I planned for it, we all planned for it. I took a few sacks, like I fell on myself.
That wasn’t very good. But some of them, you have to look at actually what happened. Was
it my fault? Was it a coverage thing? Was it a blitz pickup? I mean, I thought they did good
for the most part and I could get the ball quicker and throw it away or do whatever. So, I’ll
watch it and see what happened.
Coming back in after watching QB C.J. Beathard, how quickly did he get you back into
the flow?
MAC JONES: Yeah, yeah. I mean, it’s always got to be ready. I thought the offense moved
the ball well. We had to go down and score and we did. But I’ll watch the film, like I said,
and see what we can do better and continue to grow. I thought the young guys did a good
job with the tempo, if you look at the tempo of the last couple drives. Getting up on the ball
and calling the play, that’s a big part of the offense here, stressing the defense—all that
stuff. So, I thought they did a good job with that.
You talk about scenarios, I feel like you guys have been able to simulate a couple—
you had a two minute drive. And for you, that scenario in the fourth quarter, having to
come back in, that’s what the reality would be like in the regular season for you.
MAC JONES: Yeah, for sure, that’s a good point. Like I said, you’ve always got to be ready
and that was a good example of ‘Hey, you think you’re out for a little bit and then, hey,
you’re back in.’ So, that could happen in the season or whatever and it’s a great
opportunity to just go out there and refocus your mind and really push the young guys. And
they did. I was telling them to hurry and get on the ball and stuff, and they responded well. I
think when you do that, the offense moves the ball better.
What’s the experience been like playing in front of a hometown crowd?
MAC JONES: It’s good. I think the preseason crowds have been really good and I’m looking
forward to watching the guys in the regular season. [I] love Jacksonville, it’s a great football
town. I know high school football started back up, so I’m looking forward to watching that
and I’m excited for the regular season, too.
How are you feeling about the Bolles School Bulldogs this year?
MAC JONES: I think they’ll be pretty good. They’ve got Raines week one, so we’ll see what
happens.
How liberating is this offense that you’re working under with Coach Doug Pederson?
MAC JONES: I mean, I’ve talked about it a bunch. They’re all offensive guys, Doug
[Pederson], Press [Taylor], Andrew Breiner. So, it’s like you have a full plethora of
knowledge that you can just bounce ideas off of. That’s my whole goal coming here, is just
to learn as much as I can from Trevor [Lawrence] and C.J. [Beathard] and I feel like they’ve
done that. It’s shown a little bit on the field, but I’ve got to be consistent. That’s the biggest
challenge for me is to be consistent, lead the young guys and for the young guys to be
consistent as well. That’s what I see it as.
HEAD COACH DOUG PEDERSON

(On WR Parker Washington’s touchdown and how he has performed through training camp)
“Yeah, just anticipated him playing a little bit of shell defense right there, and they showed
kind of an all-out pressure type look and they obviously bailed at the snap. So we had the
right call on and just Parker down the middle, so he got in behind the second-level guys
pretty quickly. Mac [QB Mac Jones] did a great job, great protection, and Mac made a heck
of a throw there. Just a big play and got us going.”
(On RB Tank Bigsby’s performance tonight and in practices over the last week) “Yeah, I think
Tank is really improving. Obviously still some work to do. He did a nice job up again. He ran
tough, took care of the football. Obviously, we’ll take a look at the tape and watch it. I really
think he’s done some really good things for a young player and going to help us offensively
and just continue to grow as a running back.”
(On QB Mac Jones’ performance) “Well, we knew two quarterbacks, that once Mac was
done, he would have to stay ready in the second half. That’s always a given. I thought
overall, Mac played a solid football game. He was obviously into it. You saw his intensity out
there. Made some great throws. Just led the team like expected. And for him to come back
off the bench there late in the game to throw this touchdown pass to Brevin [WR Brevin
Easton]. He loves playing. He loves playing the game. He did some great things tonight and
helped us win this game.”
(On what he thought of the offensive line and defensive line performances) “Yeah, I think
the offensive line did a nice job there. Backs, tight ends, and even receivers on some of the
perimeter stuff being able to block, that’s what it takes in the run game. It’s not your five O-
linemen. It takes everybody. So, I thought they did some really nice things. Defensively, just
keeping guys fresh. You see all the different rotations and substitutions that they do. Just
keeps guys fresh for four quarters. We came up big at the end, and because guys were a
little more — I don’t want to say completely fresh, but they were a little more — had a little
more juice there at the end.”
(On if he knows the severity of QB C.J. Beathard’s groin injury) “I don’t yet. I haven’t talked to
Ferg [Vice President of Player Health and Performance Jeff Ferguson] yet, but it was a
groin.”
(On if Beathard would have stayed in if it were the regular season) “Well, just depends on
what happened to Trevor [QB Trevor Lawrence] for him to go in the game.”
(On injury updates for CB Christian Braswell and CB Jarrian Jones) “Jarrian is fine. He just
got a finger in the eye. Bras is a little bit sore. On the one tackle, made a heck of a play
coming and making that tackle. Just got a little sore there, his side, kind of oblique area. The
only other one that I think had — not serious — [WR] Steven Jones. It was his left shoulder,
arm, something. We’ll check him out and have more for you probably tomorrow or
Monday.”
(On what they got from three days against the Buccaneers) “You get a chance to get your
starters a lot of reps in a controlled environment against another football team. I thought
both teams really showed great sportsmanship during the week. Coach Bowles
[Buccaneers Head Coach Todd Bowles] does a great job obviously with his team, and our
guys, I was proud of the way our guys handled themselves. But to get our starters the
number of reps they did for two days in a controlled environment really is good work.
Because in a game like tonight, they would only get maybe a quarter again or a quarter and
a half. Sometimes you don’t get the scenarios or situations you want, so doing a joint
practice like that you can do that and really get some good work.”
(On if the sacks taken by QB Mac Jones were a product of O-Line shuffling or if they are
cause for concern) “Listen, they did a great job. Some of their pressure packages were
timely. We got edged a little bit on a couple of those sacks. And the secondary. Their
secondary covered our guys. So, a little bit of everything. We’ve got to take a look at the film
and obviously make some corrections and improve a little bit there.
(On if they were determined to have RB Tank Bigsby touch the ball often) “Yeah, I think that
and just the success I think early in the run game we had. I mean, just wanted to get the
offensive line, too, to kind of—you’re playing some of your role guys in the offensive line and
some of your backups and you get them settled into the football game. I think we opened
the game with maybe an 11-play drive and had an 18-play drive in there, something like
that. If you’re going to do that, your run game is going to be successful. And too, some of
the scheme that Tampa had, we wanted to continue to run the football a little bit and not
always drop back and throw it.”

(On having a three-sack night) “Shoot, first of all, I’m thankful God gave me the day to get on
that field and play the sport I like to play. So, yeah, I felt good. The DBs were doing their job.
Everybody was doing their job compressing the pocket, and I just ended up with the sack.
Everybody was getting there, so I was just the one that got there. It’s just a race to the
quarterback.”
(On what how he was able to earn his first and third sacks of the night) “I am not going to lie
to you. Ever since I had a couple of rushes in practice where I was trying to do too much, I
talked to Yaya [OLB Yaya Diaby], I talked other guys. They were like, “Man, just get off the
ball. My first thing is always just get off the ball. Whatever the tackle gives me, that’s what
I’m going to take. So, he give me inside, whatever it is—sometimes I go to the sideline, and I
don’t even remember what I did. It’s just the game inside the game. Just go out there and
play.”
(On his development as a pass rusher and achieving his defensive goals) “Man, I just trust
in coaching every week. There’s always something new I can figure out and get good at.
Even though I got three sacks, there’s still work to be done, still stuff I can get better at—get
better at the run, get better at the pass. There’s always something to get better at the end of
the day. I’m going to go in and go back to work when we get in there tomorrow.”
(On the frustration of allowing the Jaguars to convert on third down) “It’s a lot of
frustrations, but we’ve just got to have next play-mentality and try to trust the coaching and
try to fix what’s going on, whether it be defense, whether it be offense. It’s a team game, so
at the end of the day we need to clean up what we have to do to get better. Just trust in the
coaching during the game because that’s more so what it’s going to be at the end of the
day.”
(On how it helped him going up against OT Tristan Wirfs and OT Luke Goedeke) “Going
against them every day, you’ve got to understand, it’s a $150 million block. One of the best
tackles in the league. Luke, he’s underrated, so it’s things like that. Going against them
every day makes it easier on me. When I go to the game, it’s a verse that my mama sent me.
It’s in Psalms. It says, “The Lord is my shepherd; I lack nothing.” So going against them
every day, it lets me know, I’m going against these dogs every day, and going against them,
I’m not saying it’s easy, but going against everybody else it’s like, I’ve been doing it. I’ve been
doing it against Tristan and doing it against everybody. Man, I want to get it done, but just go
out here and play.”
(On if the verse was Psalms 23:1) “Psalms 23:1. Good memory.”
(On if there has been anything specifically he has been working on since the start of training
camp) “Since the end of the season and into last year just working with Tristan, Luke. Just
them giving me pointers on stuff that I can use. They see it from the other side. I see it from
my side. So, them telling me ways to beat people, this and that, and working with AP [Head
Strength and Conditioning Coach Anthony Piroli], Dre [Assistant Strength and Conditioning
Coach Deandre Ward Sr.], Coach Wade [Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach Chad
Wade], and all of them in the weight room. Just getting my body where I need to be and
working with G [Outside Linebackers Coach George Edwards] and [inaudible] and them.
Just the whole Tampa Bay just putting 100 percent of what I got to do because I feel like
that’s where confidence comes from is just working the whole offseason. When it comes to
game time, there’s no nerves or butterflies. You probably get them feelings before the game
like I’m about to go play football, but it’s not that I can’t execute my job because we put the
work in already. So I’m thankful for everybody. AP, every time we get in the weight room, we
put in some work. We’re about to get some work in tomorrow. I know he’s going to get me
right.”
(On taking advantage of opportunities to play as a result of injuries to the outside
linebacker room) “Yeah, I take advantage of it. Them boys good. They’re healthy. Both of
them are made of machines, so we don’t have to worry about their injuries. They’re going to
be good before the season starts. Like you said, taking advantage of the opportunities.
There’s two guys that are starters that play a lot that’s not playing right now, so everybody
else got to step up. I take it as an opportunity that God blessed me with to go out there and
play some more. Just taking it as, ‘Dang, I got to get more reps or do this.’ Just look at it as
it’s more opportunities to make plays.”
BUCCANEERS HEAD COACH TODD BOWLES
POSTGAME MEDIA AVAILABILITY
SATURDAY, AUGUST 17, 2024
Q. Third down was a problem for you guys tonight on defense, especially third and
long. I’m sure that irritated you guys.
TODD BOWLES: It was a problem on both sides of the ball. I think we were 18 percent on
offense. Defense we bust two coverages — one on third-and-17, one on third-and-16. Gave
up two first downs — or one first down and one touchdown. Young guys got to
communicate. They’ve got to play better.
Q. At the same time your pass rush showed up at least from the outside linebackers
with OLB Jose Ramirez getting three sacks. Can you speak about what you saw from
your edge rushers tonight?
TODD BOWLES: That’s the one thing that showed up on defense. Obviously, there were a lot
of missed tackles in the run game. Not pleased with that. Not pleased with third down, but
we got five sacks. Doesn’t count in the loss, but the young guys made some progress.
Q. What can you say about G Elijah Klein and him moving along the offensive line
playing both tackle and guard tonight?
TODD BOWLES: That’s tough. You know, we put him [G Elijah Klein] in some tough spots
that he hadn’t played in a while. Late in the game especially. That makes it tough on the
quarterback when you are trying to move like that, but he is gritty. He’s tough. He’ll play
anywhere. That’s says a lot about his character.
Q. What happened to QB John Wolford on that sack?
TODD BOWLES: They ran a twist game, and we didn’t pick it up.
Q. What happened to QB John Wolford? Is he okay?
TODD BOWLES: As far as I know. I think it was his ribs. I don’t know how bad. We’ll see.
Q. What about S Kaevon Merriweather? He had an injury early in the game.
TODD BOWLES: Yeah, I have to get more information.
Q. OLB Jose Ramirez, you saw a lot of him on the practice squad last year. Can you talk
about his development and just how you’ve seen him grow as a pass rusher?
TODD BOWLES: We knew he [OLB Jose Ramirez] was a pass rusher. His thing was learning
the defense and playing the runs so he can learn every down. We have to watch the film
from that aspect. He came back in shape. He came back lean. He gets off the ball. He uses
his hands well, and he understands to get to the quarterback. It’s the other aspect of his
game that he has to bring along with that.
Q. Can you talk about RB Sean Tucker’s performance tonight? He had another
explosive run, averaged eight yards a carry. Didn’t get a lot of touches because you
guys didn’t have the ball that much. What have you seen from him in the preseason
and specifically tonight?
TODD BOWLES: He [RB Sean Tucker] looked like he did early last year in preseason. He’s
healthy. He understands where he has to go. He knows his cuts. He knows his fits. He is
confident right now, and he’s playing good football.
Q. WR Cody Thompson made some plays today with a touchdown, drawing a penalty.
Seems like he’s built a lot of chemistry specifically with QB Kyle Trask throughout
training camp. What was your assessment of his performance tonight and really
throughout this whole preseason?
TODD BOWLES: He’s really one of the guys we wanted to see tonight. He got a lot of time.
He got a lot of plays. He made a lot of plays. Got to look at the totality of it, but he showed
up. The lights weren’t too big for him. He knows assignment football. He understands the
game, and he catches in traffic.
Q. Something you talked about a lot in your preseason interview was the
communication and you wanted to improve. How do you improve that? It looks like
there’s still work to do.
TODD BOWLES: With the young guys there’s going to be work to do. There are things that
they have to talk to each other. They’re making calls, but they’re not making them to each
other. One guy is doing one thing. The other guy is doing another. They have to get on the
same page. Have to keep working at that with them.
Q. You didn’t have the ball much in the first half, but how do you think QB Kyle Trask
played when he was in there?
TODD BOWLES: I thought he [QB Kyle Trask] played with poise. Defense didn’t give the
offense enough opportunity to have the ball from dink-and-dunk plays and missed tackles,
but I thought he played with a lot of poise and took advantage of the times when he had to
throw.
Q. K Chase McLaughlin was a great kicker for you guys last year. He has missed a
couple in preseason, including one tonight. Is that bothersome to you? Does that
concern you?
TODD BOWLES: Any time a kicker misses a field goal or an extra point it’s bothersome to
me. He was great last year. We’ve got to iron it out, and we have to get it done.
Q. What would you say was the main issue for the offense in the second half? It seems
like they couldn’t get in much of a rhythm? There were a couple of three and outs that
they had.
TODD BOWLES: Had some penalties. Really protecting the quarterback. If we can’t keep
the quarterback upright, it’s hard to move the ball.
Q. After a solid week of practice, how do you think OLB Chris Braswell did tonight in
carrying that over into the game?
TODD BOWLES: Wasn’t really looking at him. I got to look at the tape to see more.
Q. You mentioned after the Cincinnati game that you could possibly get some others
an opportunity to call plays on defense. Who was calling plays for the defense tonight?
TODD BOWLES: [Run Game Coordinator/Defensive Line] Coach [Kacy] Rodgers called it
tonight.

(On getting a lot of reps in tonight’s game) “Yeah, it’s really just getting those opportunities out
there. There’s a lot of younger guys that were able to play that game. It’s awesome to be able
to go from the joint practices and be able to play fast really. I think you saw a lot of guys doing
that tonight.”
(On who stood out to him tonight) “Yeah, I feel like offensively, I like how hard Tank [RB Tank
Bigsby] was running the ball. Austin [WR Austin Trammel] was making plays, Mac [QB Mac
Jones], Brevin [WR Brevin Easton] with the touchdown on the sideline, that was awesome to
see. Defensively, I think all-around, the linebackers, the younger linebackers that were coming
in and making some plays. Defensive line getting the sacks, the way that we ended the game
that was awesome to see and the stop that we had on that goal line. I think, all-around, you can
pick a player from each position and they were making plays out there.”
(On his performance in the game) “Yeah, I think it’s important, whenever you have those
opportunities, to make those plays. I feel like, when the opportunities came to me tonight, I
was able to go show what I was able to do, and I’m happy with it.”
(On what he thinks is clicking for the defense) “I think it kind of goes back to the mindset we
have each and every day. He really treats each day like a game day. With that, we’re trying to
align and adjust before the pre-snap, win the pre-snap is what we talk about a lot. And then it’s
also attack and aggressive, and I think you’re able to see that with our play in how guys are
attacking the ball, getting hard hits and I think it just allows us to play fast too, and trust one
another out there.
