| Pompano Beach to honor 9/11 heroes on Sept. 11 at 9:00 a.m. The City of Pompano Beach Parks and Recreation Department in collaboration with Pompano Beach Fire Rescue, The Broward Sheriff’s Office and the Pompano Beach Historical Society invite you to “9/11: A Day for Honoring Our Heroes”. The virtual event will be held on Saturday, September 11th at 9:00 a.m. The Ceremony will be a special morning of remembrance, recognition and celebration featuring guest speakers, musicians and a special performance by the Ft. Lauderdale Symphonic Winds which you can enjoy from the comfort of your home. The September 11th Remembrance event will be accessible to view on the City’s Youtube Channel, website www.pompanobeachfl.gov, Facebook page, and Channel 78. |
| Coral Springs to launch Hometown Heroes Banner Program Coral Springs to launch Hometown Heroes Banner ProgramFrom David VolzThe City of Coral Springs is looking forward to launching the inaugural Hometown Heroes Banner program to honor military veterans and active-duty service members from Coral Springs. Indexing banners will be hung along University Drive, from Royal Palm Boulevard to Ramblewood Drive featuring the faces of city veterans or service members, along with the branch of the military they served on a quarterly basis. Mayor Scott J. Brook said, “Through the Hometown Heroes Banner program, we recognize deserving members of the Coral Springs community who selflessly served or are serving in the armed forces. This patriotic display of appreciation is a great reminder of the sacrifices these men and women endured and continue to endure in the pursuit of our nation’s freedom.” This program is in addition to the Veteran Recognition program held monthly at City Commission meetings and the ceremonies hosted to honor Memorial Day and Veterans Day. Coral Springs residents are encouraged to submit their military family members for recognition through the online application portal on the Coral Sprrings website. Banner placement is free, but space is limited. Applications are reviewed by staff on a first-come, first-serve basis. At the conclusion of each quarter, the banner will be provided back to the service member or their family as a continued gesture of our appreciation. To initiate the Hometown Heroes Banner program, the first set of banners feature city staff who are serving or served in our nation’s military. The first round of veterans and active military members will be featured in honor of Veteran’s Day and will remain for a three-month period. |
