Pistons Losing Streak Continue
By Damon Knight
Wednesday night marked the 18th consecutive loss for the Detroit Pistons, as they were
defeated by the Memphis Grizzlies 116-102. The Grizzlies were led by guard Desmond Bane
who scored 19 out of 49 points in the third quarter, resulting in a win. After the game, veteran
forward Bojan Bogdanovic said,
“We lost the game in the third quarter,” Bogdanovic said. “We were up by like eight, and
we had a timeout. And we are coming out of the timeout, allowing Bane to have a
wide-open three, wide-open layups, and allowing them to get back in the game. But at the
end of the day, I don’t think today it was about making or missing shots; it’s just our
approach and taking it more personally at this point.”
“I mean, it feels to me that we are going harder against each other in practices, but at this
point, no matter how we practice, the people are coming to watch us at Little Caesar
Arena, not at the PPC. So we got to get here and be better and show them the fight, and
at this point, anger that we got to play with because we cannot be cool playing against
the other teams.”
Meanwhile, in the locker room, Bogdanovic addressed his teammates saying,
“The only message is, and the only truth is, “the mirror,” Bogdanovic said. “We’ve got to
look at ourselves in the mirror, each of us as players. The truth is there on why we’re
playing bad or why we cannot win the game. So, don’t blame it on anyone else. That’s the
only message that I can send the guys, and we all know that. But we’ve got to be more
honest with ourselves, take a bit more pride because at this point, it’s just bad.”
The current NBA record for consecutive losses sits at 24. A feat held by the 2010-2011
Cleveland Cavaliers. Therefore, Detroit’s last win was on October 28th, when they beat the
Chicago Bulls 116-102 at Little Caesars Arena. The Pistons will hope to snap after losing streak
tomorrow night vs. the Orlando Magic at 7pm.
