Since signing with the organization, Painter started the 2022 season with the Clearwater thrashers, single A in the Florida State League. After nine Starts, in which he went one and one with a 1.4 era 69 strikeout 16 walks over 38 and 2/3 innings.

Pioneer was the consensus Top 15 prospect in baseball. However, March 10th he was shut down after being diagnosed with the elbow injury and underwent Tommy John surgery in Los Angeles.

Never having pitched a competitive game in 2023 Painter did not play baseball for the Phillies organization in 2024 while recovering from surgery, but did play with the Glendale desert dogs of the Arizona fall League being named the picture of the Year award. Returned to Clearwater the first month of 2025 and was then promoted to Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs AAA. He was selected to represent the Phillies and the 2025 All-Star futures game at Truist Park.

Over 26 starts the season, Painter went five and eight with a 5.26 era. 123 strikeouts over 118 innings. On November 18th of 2025, the Phillies added Painter to their 40-man roster and protected him from the rule 5 Draft on March 20th of 2026. Phillies announced that Painter had made their opening day roster and made his debut yesterday striking out eight batters in 5 and 1/3 innings.

Phillies are going to need more outings like that from Painter while waiting for Team Ace Zach Wheeler to return from an injury and also in hopes to bolster the team’s chances at a deep October run. Also, performances like last night should also quell naysayers who doubted Painters potential impact after his Tommy John Surgery. Needless to say, the future is bright for this young pitching standout. Who we should see perform at a high level as he’s only 22 years old.
