TONIGHT’S CITY FURNITURE MILITARY HERO: David Verlen
Tonight’s Hero Among Us is First Lieutenant David Verlen. David served in the 86th Engineer Construction Battalion of the US Army from 1955-1957. During his service, David was assigned to assist with Operation Mercy which worked to process over 8,000 Hungarian refugees to Camp Kilmer, New Jersey during the Cold War.

    skaters with 43 assists and 53 points (10-43-53) on home ice this season, while Sergei Bobrovsky’s 19 home wins (19-3-0) are the third-most among

    HIT PARADE
    Radko Gudas logged 10 hits March 27 at TOR, his third game with at least 10 hits this season. Since the NHL began tracking hits in 2005-06, a
    Panthers skater has recorded at least 10 hits in one game eight times; Gudas accounts for six of those eight performances. His 296 hits are the most in
    one season in club history. Gudas leads all NHL skaters in hits in 2021-22, and paced all skaters with 250 hits in 2020-21. The Panthers logged a
    season-high 50 hits March 17 at VGK, tied for the second-most hits in one game in franchise history. Gudas led the team with 12 hits in the game, tied
    for the most of any NHL skater in one game this season, and the most single-game hits by a Panthers skater in club history since the NHL began
    tracking hits.

    COMEBACK CATS
    The Panthers overcame a three-goal deficit to win March 26 at OTT, marking their third 3-goal comeback win of the season (also Nov. 30 vs. WSH
    &Dec. 2 vs. BUF). Per NHL PR, only three teams in NHL history have posted more in a season: DET (4, 1989-90), MNS (4, 1983-84) and EDM (4, 1983-
    84).
    CATS AND CANADIENS
    Tonight, the Panthers and Canadiens face off for the third time this season. The Cats have defeated Montreal in their two prior matchups, outscoring the
    Canadiens 9-5. Florida has won each of its past four games against Montreal at FLA Live Arena since Feb. 17, 2019. In Montreal’s last visit to Sunrise,
    Jonathan Huberdeau notched three assists and Sam Bennett scored two goals to power the Panthers to a 5-2 victory.
    HUBY SNACKS
    Jonathan Huberdeau notched his league-leading 69th assist of the season March 27 at TOR, and he has produced six points (2-4-6) over his past four
    games. He skated in his 655th NHL game March 26 at OTT, surpassing Stephen Weiss for most games played in franchise history. Huberdeau is one
    assist shy of becoming the first Panthers skater to reach 400 assists with the club. He is two assists away from surpassing Joe Juneau (70, 1992-93) for
    the most assists in one season by a left wing in NHL history. He leads Florida with 90 points (21-69-90), 21 multi-point games and 13 multi-assist
    outings. Huberdeau is seven points shy of surpassing the franchise single season record (96, Aleksander Barkov in 2018-19). Huberdeau matched his
    career high with 4 assists March 10 vs. PHI, his third 4-assist game of the season.
    BARKOV COUNTY
    Panthers Captain Aleksander Barkov tallied his team-leading 28th goal of the season March 26 at OTT and scored the game-deciding goal in the
    shootout. His GDG was his second of the season and ninth of his career, surpassing Vincent Trocheck for most shootout-deciding goals in franchise
    history. He has converted on three of his five shootout attempts this season. Barkov has recorded a point in four of his past five games (2-2-4), and
    produced 15 points (3-12-15) over his past 11 games. Barkov’s goal March 7 at BUF marked his ninth power-play goal, the second-most on Florida.
    He ranks second on the Cats with 64 points (28-36-64). Barkov’s four shorthanded tallies in 2021-22 are tied for the league lead.
    G-UNIT
    Claude Giroux notched two assists in each of his first two games with the Panthers, becoming the second player in club history to start their tenure with
    consecutive multi-point performances following Patric Hornqvist (Jan. 17-19, 2021). Giroux notched two assists in his Panthers debut March 24 at MTL,
    the fifth Panthers skater in the past 10 years to post a multi-assist performance in their first game with the team (list includes Sam Bennett [0-2-2, April
    17, 2021 at TBL] and Jonathan Huberdeau [1-2-3, Jan. 19, 2013 vs. CAR]). He has registered a 56.3 faceoff win percentage [27/48] over his first three
    games with FLA.
    CLEAR EYES, FULL ‘HART
    Sam Reinhart has produced five points (2-3-5) over his past six games. He tallied his team-leading 10th power-play goal of the season March 24 at
    MTL. The tally also marked his 25th goal of the campaign, tied for his career high from 2020-21 and 2017-18. He has produced 12 points (6-6-12) over
    his past 10 games. Reinhart ranks third on Florida with 38 assists and 62 points (24-38-62). He recorded his 6th career hat trick and his 2nd this season
    with Florida March 10 vs. PHI. His performance included 2 PPGs, the first Panthers skater this season to tally 2 PPGs in one period.
    THE DUKE OF SOUTH FLORIDA
    Anthony Duclair has registered four points (2-2-4) over his past five games. He scored his career-high 26th goal of the campaign March 26 at OTT, the
    second-most on FLA this season. He scored a PPG in four consecutive games from March 5-10, matching a club record for longest streak of games with
    a PPG (Evgenii Dadonov, 4 games from Nov. 28-Dec. 4, 2018). His 49 points (26-23-49) this season are are also a career high, while he is two assists
    away from setting a new career mark. His 4-game goal streak (4-1-5) from March 5-10 was his longest of the season and tied for the longest by a
    Panthers skater in 2021-22. His eight power-play tallies are the third-most on FLA this season.
    YOU’RE ON THE CASE, BOBROVSKY
    Sergei Bobrovsky earned his 31st win (31-6-3) of the season March 26 at OTT. Bobrovsky is four wins away from matching Roberto Luongo’s club
    record for wins in a season (35 in 2005-06 and 2015-16). He has earned a win in each of his past five starts since March 3, posting a .920 save
    percentage over that span. He ranks third among NHL goaltenders with 19 home wins (19-3-0), posting wins in each of his past three home starts.
    BENNY AND THE CATS
    Sam Bennett notched his 13th assist of the campaign March 27 at TOR. He scored his 25th goal of the season March 17 at VGK. His 38 points (25-13-
    38) and 25 goals this season are career highs. He leads Florida with 183 shots on goal in 2021-22, and paces the club with six game-winning goals this
    season.
    BEWARE THE IDES OF MARCH
    Mason Marchment scored his career-high 14th goal of the season March 24 at MTL. He has posted a point in two of his past four games (1-1-2) and
    eight points (3-5-8) over his past 12 outings, including his first career power-play goal March 3 vs. OTT. Marchment has produced 36 points (14-22-36)
    and 86 hits over 40 games in 2021-22.
    OH WHAT A KNIGHT
    Spencer Knight started five consecutive road contests for Florida from March 13-24. Over those five contests, he posted a 3-1-1 record, .923 save
    percentage and 2.17 goals against average. The Darien, Conn., native registered his first NHL shutout March 18 at ANA, stopping all 17 Ducks shots. At
    20 years, 333 days, Knight was the youngest goaltender to earn their first NHL shutout in Panthers history.
    AGENT CARTER
    Carter Verhaeghe has logged two points (1-1-2) over his past five games. He tallied 2 goals March 10 vs. PHI, scoring at least one goal for the third
    consecutive game. He has logged eight points (5-3-8) over his past 11 contests. Verhaeghe’s 21 goals, 27 assists and 48 points this season are all
    career highs. All 21 of his goals have come at even strength, the most on the Panthers in 2021-22. He ranks second on FLA with 45 even-strength
    points (21-24-45) this season.
