PANTHERS POSTGAME QUOTES
Defenseman Aaron Ekblad
On the team’s effort tonight:
“[Bennett’s goal] was huge, obviously, on the powerplay—which we need. Those timely goals are extremely important, and we haven’t scored a ton on the powerplay so that was very welcome and we’re really proud of that. And then scoring in overtime—it’s always fun, it’s always exciting. When the whole team comes at you, you can barely breathe when they’re all huddled around you there. Great game, obviously a hard fought one. They did a good job getting in our face early and hitting us, but we ultimately took care of business.”
On Bobrovsky’s game:
“Bob’s been top one, two, three in the league this year so far. He’s been unbelievable. I’m really happy for him—he deserves it. He’s one of the hardest working guys, he prepares the best out of anyone on this team.”
Forward Sam Bennett
On being hard to beat on home ice:
“We want to be like that on the road, too. Especially at home we want to make this one of the hardest buildings to play in. We’re just going to keep doing what we’re doing at home.”
On tonight’s win:
“There’s a big feeling of pride and joy in the locker room after that win. It wasn’t an easy one, and we’re proud of how we’re playing at home. It’s a lot of fun playing in front of our fans and getting wins at home, so we’re just going to look to keep doing that.”
Goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky
On their eleventh consecutive home win:
“We don’t think too much about what’s happened in the past, [or] about statistics and stuff. We focus on our system, on our game—each game and every shift. We have a big belief in our group. We have a great atmosphere, we have a great group of guys, and it’s fun to be a part of.”
On hard work this season:
“Yeah, you know I [am] from a small, small town in Russia and all I got is hard work. [I had] to make myself up, make my way up into the NHL, into the position where I am to be the hockey player [I am]. I love the game and I love everything with the game.”
Interim Head Coach Andrew Brunette
On Bennett’s effort tonight:
“[Bennett’s] up for a challenge. I mean he’s one of those guys that anything you give him, he’s ready to go. He loves it. He is a really competitive kid, he’s [all], ‘give it to me and I’ll take it’. You know, I thought he played really well tonight, made some huge plays, a huge goal. Yeah, he was great tonight.”
On the team’s performance tonight:
“I was really happy with the way we played. You know, it wasn’t perfect, maybe, at different stretches. It didn’t come easy, which, we’ve had a lot of nights where it has come easy. Tonight we really had to earn it honestly, and we obviously dug in and found a way.”
