BOCA RATON, Fla. – With one week left to play in the 2023 Florida Atlantic University football season, the Owls (4-7, 3-4 AAC) took to the fields Tuesday morning in preparation for the contest scheduled for 1 p.m. EST this Saturday, Nov. 25, 2023 at Rice (5-6, 3-4 AAC).
With plenty on the line, Florida Atlantic goes into the game with several hallmark players looking to etch themselves in the annals of FAU. Senior running back Larry McCammon III has used the year to build a rushing career among the program’s top-five. Junior receiver LaJohntay, Wester who has led the nation wire-to-wire in total receptions, is listed 31 times (nine career, 15 season and 7 single-game). And neither accomplishment would exist without the consistent play of senior offensive lineman Marquice Robinson. Robinson is one game shy of tying the program’s all-time games played list at 60. He also is part of a starting five that has started every 2023 game. Currently there are nine FBS programs, including FAU, to use the same starting five each of the 11 regular-season games.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Owls will enter this week’s game with 83 (64-38) tackles for a loss, accumulated by 25 FAU defenders. Jaylen Wester has a team leading 7.5 TFLs for a loss of 20 yards. Courtney McBride has added seven and Jarron Morris has 6.5 for a loss of 19 yards. The Owls’ 83 TFLs rank third all-time for a single-season and are just five shy of a single-season record with one game to play. FAU’s all-time single-season TFL high is 88 (60-50) set in 2019. The No. 2 spot is 85 (63-34) and was set in 2017.
