Owls Start C-USA Play at North Texas

BOCA RATON, Fla. – On Sunday afternoon, the Florida Atlantic University women’s soccer team will begin its last Conference USA season. The Owls will square off against North Texas in Denton at 2 p.m. eastern time. FAU will move to the American Athletic Conference in the summer of 2023.

In the C-USA preseason coaches’ poll, FAU was predicted to finish third, while North Texas was selected to finish fourth.

ABOUT THE OWLS

  • The Owls are coming off an exciting 2-1 victory over Kansas last time out. Bri Austin scored in the clutch with 11 seconds left to propel FAU over the Jayhawks
  • Austin has led the offensive attack for FAU this year with four goals, three assists and 11 points. She is tied for fifth in C-USA in goals and sits alone in fifth in points
  • Gi Krstec and Sofia Voldby are both tied for eighth in the conference in goals with three each. Krstec tied the match against Kansas in the first half
  • Hailey Landrus collected her third assist of the year on Austin’s game-winning goal. Landrus and Austin are tied for fifth in the conference in assists
  • The Owls are used to playing in close games, with five contests that have been decided by one goal or less. FAU is 2-1-2 in those games. Krstec scored a game-winner with less than two minutes left against USF earlier this season

ABOUT THE MEAN GREEN

  • The Mean Green played their conference opener against Charlotte on Thursday and came away with a 4-0 win
  • North Texas has had success scoring this year with 27 goals in nine games played. That leads C-USA and ranks fourth in the nation
  • Olivia Klein leads North Texas and ranks seventh in the nation with seven goals

LAST YEAR’S MEETING

  • The Owls defeated North Texas in double overtime last year by a 2-1 tally
  • The golden goal came off the foot of 2021 graduate Miracle Porter in the second overtime
  • Mia Sennes recorded the first score for the Owls to tie the game 1-1 in the first half
