DENTON, Tx. – The Florida Atlantic University softball team is ready for the Conference USA Championship Tournament. The Owls are the No. 5 seed after a 15-9 regular season record in conference play. The Owls with face eighth-seeded UTSA on Wednesday, May 11, at 2:30 p.m. central time. The entire tournament will be held at North Texas.

The conference tournament appearance marks the first one for the Owls since the 2018 season.
REGULAR SEASON SERIES

In the regular season matchup, FAU swept UTSA and did so in improbable fashion. The Owls walked it off in each game. In game two, FAU trailed 10-3 heading into the seventh inning but used seven runs in the seventh inning. Sara Berthiaume tied the game with a clutch two-out double. In the eighth inning, Kaitlyn Cunningham walked it off with a base hit to give FAU the wild win.
 
The Owls trailed the Roadrunners 3-0 heading into the sixth inning of game three but scored two on an error in the sixth and two on an error in the seventh.
 TWO OWLS EARN ALL-C-USA HONORS

Sara Berthiaume was named First Team All-C-USA, and Lynn Gardner was named Second Team All-C-USA on Tuesday.

Berthiaume has been the catalyst for the FAU offense. She leads the Owls in nearly every offensive category, including batting average (.387), RBI (33), doubles (10) and triples (7). She ranks fourth in the conference in batting average and third in the nation in triples.

Gardner has been the ace for the FAU pitching staff and earned Second Team All-C-USA recognition. She is FAU’s leader in almost every pitching category, including wins (17) ERA (2.46), innings pitched (170.2) complete games (21) and shutouts (9). She ranks seventh in the nation in shutouts and fourth in the conference in ERA.
 MARSHALL AWAITS THE WINNER

The winner of FAU and UTSA’s game will face the No. 4 seed Marshall at 7:30 p.m. After the first game, the tournament moves to a double elimination format. All games will be available to watch on ESPN+.
